a bit of help for a buyer

hi all,

just about to buy a SEAT and am looking for a few comments on the SEAT ownership experience.

Next week i'll be trading in my Impreza WRX for a Leon FR 150 TDi. i've loved my Subaru (for 3 years) but the novelty has worn off now - especially as it costs sooooooooooo much to run and i've been unfortunate and 3 people have crashed into it over the past 12 months (an unlucky car???)

anyway, i've heard many good things about the Leon and am gonna take the plunge, but just wanted to know if there's anything i should know before i buy, what's the dealer service like? any reliability problems (haven't seen any on forums)? anything else would help too.

look forward to your comments and appreciate any help.

thanks all,

Andy B.

underlying theme
that the only thing that ruins seats
is the shocking dealerships from services to selling to problems

cars are great

thanks for the replies

i'd heard some small gripes about the dealerships service level, luckily i've got a dealer only a couple of miles from me.

and my experience with subaru dealers wasn't great to be honest.

Theres a forum section - "seat dealers - have your say", worth looking in there for your local one?

the car is fantastic but then again it depends on your local dealer and how good he is with regards to trouble shootingand aftersales service .
a bad dealership can give a nice car a bad reputation.
my nearest dealership is in sidcup of kent and they are fantastic when it comes to aftersales service and trouble shooting.
not withstanding that, i would recommend the leon any day.

I find the SEAT dealers I have come across to be no worse than anywhere else to be honest. Not sure what Subaru are like as they seem to be a bit of a 'niche' brand and tend to have the smaller dealerships, but from my dealings Renault are the worst by a country mile.

The FR is a brilliant car, ive had it 10 months and still love driving it, done 10K and not missed a beat

Dealers have been good, as when had a service i didnt book a courtsey car, they said it would take longer than expected so game me a demo car :)

my dealer is great and they don't mind me doing mods to the car so warranty is still intact.last time i took the car in they actually did more work to my car for free as they spotted a few things

thanks all

appreciate all the responses

i know that dealers tend to offer better pre-sales service and then you find out that the after sales service can be a bit guff. but i'll find out.

really looking forward to getting my car now. i got a choice of silver or platinum on 55 plates with lowish mileage so this time next week i'll definately be an owner

thanks again for all your posts

What ever you do, do not spend a penny at a SEAT dealer. The back up from SEAT is terrible. I have spoken to the managing Director of SEAT last week and he is a liar, this is the very top of the tree in this country! Really do not buy one there is absolutely no backup.

hmmm just negotiating with SEAT now, they're not moving much on price or the trade-in of my car.

i won't let them take the p*55 out of me.

What ever car manufacturer you go for there will always be the odd person who has a really terrible experience. I have had a scooby and know what the servicing costs are like every 7500 miles or 6 months. I have a cupra (1.8T) now and I've had it for three years, the build quality is very good although most suffer from dash board creaks but generally they are excellent. I also have a Golf estate 130bhp TDI it is the second one as I love this engine it is a company car so does a lot of miles and the last one I had for 3 years without a single problem. The engine in the FR is the same engine but 150bhp believe me you will not be disappointed my Golf pulls like a train and embarasses a lot of other people with more expensive cars. I wouldn't trade the Leon for anything at the moment. I don't know where you live but I have the car serviced at Colchester and have not had a problem with them. Hope this helps.
