Today, I decided to attempt ot fit my Sparco steering wheel.

Had a great start as I ignored the 1st steps of this guide - I wondered why the airtbag wiring loom snapped off thus unraveling the ribbon inside   .

things went from bad to worse after I disconnected the airbag underneath the stalks that I should of done first and completly withdrew the wheel. Then I discovered the Momo boss that I bought for Mk2 Golf fitment 2nd hand (was assured it would fit a 6k Ibiza/Cordoba) didn't fit [:@]

The splined sleeve on the Momo boss is about half the diameter it needs to be.

Question is have I been mislead about the fitment and in turn supplied the wrong boss?

Getting the old wheel back on was even more truamatic, once I pissed about getting the airbag ribbon back in its recess and the wheel refitted, the horn would short out every time I turned the wheel, took ages to sort out :censored:

On the plus side I'm now an expert getting thes things on and off

The mk2 golf had 2 different steering column sizes. Early ones had a smaller one, this may be what you have. Later ones had a larger diameter fitting. I don't know when they changed, but if the golf it came from had a hazard light switch on the dash then it's the older one.

The larger end of the hole should be ~30mm diameter for late mk2 golf fitment.

Jase, since the whole boss is live, how did you ground the return for the horn switch? (theirs only one spade connection in my new boss kit)
we're going back a while now so take a pinch of salt with this.
iirc the momo one has a grounding ring with a spade connector on it,one end on there t'other end on the back of the horn press.
like i said,pinch of salt :)

The boss I got is made from a solid alloy casting - much better than the collapsable steel Momo one. I didnt get a grounding ring for the spade connector, so I drilled & bolted the connection to the boss. The sparco horn switch was also duff as it was shorting out, took that to peices bit of insulting tape sorted that. The reach is perfect with the snap off boos but I might have to drop the column even further.

Next weekend= Ap brakes ;)

Yeah, thats the one - real nice grip/feel to it. I got mine new from fleabay for about £85, the the boss is made by Ektor, also I have a snap off boss to for extra reach/security.
