hi all..

sorry in advance if this has been covered but i tried a search and didnt come up with anything..

basically had my leon for around 6months and i presumed automatically it was a 110bhp ( got it as a gift and never looked at logbook ) had it remapped and everything is fine. wanted more power and looked into getting a PD130 turbo but from what i been told is i cant do it.

am i right in saying the difference in a 110bhp and a 90bhp is - the ECU, turbo, and injectors? spent alot of money maintaining it and keeping it for at least another 6months. just wanted to know the differences and if there was anyway i could squeeze a PD turbo on and roughly the costs? well if anyone knows that is..

thanks in advance

Johnny

I'm assuming you're talking about TDI's here, although your profile says you drive a 20VT Sport?

The most noticable difference is the turbo. Nearly all TDI 90's have a wastegate turbo, TDI 110 and above all have VNT turbos. Easiest way to tell is to look at the turbo itself: if the vacuum actuator lies between the exhaust turbine and inlet compressor, then it's a VNT turbo. If the actuator lies parallel to the turbo shaft, across the back, then its a wastegate turbo and you have a TDI 90.

The engine code will tell you for sure.

The usual TDI 90 engine is AGR, uses a Garrett GT15 turbo. The turbo wastegate vacuum actuator is fitted behind the turbo, on the side facing the engine block, and works across the turbo, the actuating rod is parallel to the turbo's axis.

The TDI 110 engine (codes ASV and AHF are the ones you are likely to see in a Leon), uses a Garrett VNT15 turbo, and the vacuum actuator hangs underneath the turbo, with the rod working at right angles to the turbo axis.

One TDI 90 engine fitted to the last of the TDI 90's, engine code ALH, also uses this turbo, and is more-or-less a TDI 110 restricted to 90 BHP by the ECU map.

Obviously the ECU map will be different with each turbo installation. Don't know if the injectors are different or not.
