Yes possible, but you'll have to transplant a 16v engine as usual.

Same advice as here http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=76992, except subframe is the same, more hassle than its worth, just sell the 8v and buy a 16v? Not much money difference & includes free brake upgrade  etc

Why would you ever want to swap engines anyway? Not a great deal of performance difference exactly, bang for buck

what about the later 8v from the beetle?and lob some throttle bodies on it?
not sure the top end is a straight swap, but newer botton end would be a good bet anyway,or a 1.8 20v with TB's

Over there
You could whack the 16v head on the 8v engine and with all the right fitments i'm sure you could perhaps get it to work, also needed would be an ecu from a 16 valve.....
I'm talking of a 2l 8v to 2l 16v conversion here!

I'd be interested to know whats needed to do this as i'm sick of no go after 80mph where the 16v has no issues of pulling and my 8v does.
