Is it still worth getting your car serviced by a dealership after the warrenty, does it have much more benefits? great deal more of price retention? does anyone know if there is some guides availableto indicate when certain items need replacing ie timing belt ??

Hi Mate
Timing belt is 60k
It will say in your service book everything you want to know
I used to work at a dealership until I had had enough and decided to go to a specialist as I did not like the way it worked
It was all about money and not the customer
I have my car serviced here and I believe that they guys are a bit more carefull with your car as the are enthusiasts as well as tecnicians

looked in the book it says to change the belt at 60k on a alhambra ?

80k on a tdi with fuel injector pump?
90k on all other tdi and sdi

can anyone confirm if the pd tdi is the one with the injector pump the book is on about?

Its a lot cheaper than changing an engine after one snaps.

If you car is over 5 years old I would also consider having it changed. Years kill cambelts as well as miles.

its about 2.5yrs old and 55k miles.. so im guessing i will be hitting 60k soon and was concerned about the costs as im strapped for cash at the mo... 80k will mean next year for me so by then ill have some tucked away... hopefully there are no other big things left for me to look into checking/doing apart from tyres and fuel ??

Just had my timing belt done at 60k by local dealer. No complaints about the work itslef, but just be carefull when they ring up and ask for extra work to be done. IMO much of the work wanted to do didnt need to be done and was quoted at silly prices. I think they make their money on these extras knowing people wont want to take their car in again or do the work themselves.

lots of vw's are getting done at 60k too - same engine. maybe you should ask the dealer? I think the tensioners need changing at the same time as the cam/timing belt. are those the extras that you are on a bout Kinky?

Hey peeps. I got quoted £275 last week to change my timing belt & tensioners on my mk2 ibiza (its at 59,000) from my local "stealership!" Made a few phone calls & can get the belt changed by itself for £81 elsewhere!
My mate used to work for VW & he says that the tensioners dont really need changed/tightened till around 100,000miles!

I would always change a tensioner, you have to take it off anyhow and for £30-£40 it just doesnt make sense not to.

Any vw specialist or local garage can do the service and belt change for alot less ££, The eonly reason to go to the Stealers is if you really really really want the SEAT stamp. thats one expensive stamp.
I went to a vw specialist for my 1st service and saved a fortune.
