I was concidering buying a galaxy with a knackered auto gearbox and getting a recon or replacement one. It was a good deal but its gone now. Anyway. I see Goble said that the gearbox has a similar bellhousing to the MTX75. Is this any similar to the MT75 ford gearbox as i know i can get hold of them easily.

To quote Fords tech release....

The VXT 75 transmission used in the Galaxy is based on the well-known MTX 75 transmission. The differences between the MTX 75 transmission are listed below:

-- Transmission-end housing section modified for attachment of the roll resistor and hydraulic mounting and for the new gearshift mechanism. The fluid drain plug is repositioned.

-- Internal gearshift mechanism with new flange housing because of cable actuation.

-- Both housing sections are modified in the area of the final drive assembly.

-- Double synchronisation for 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears.

-- Modified output shaft:pinion forms a unit with the shaft (removable on MTX 75).3rd and 4th gear wheels pressed on (unified with shaft on MTX 75). This gives rise to changes in the procedure for dismantling and reassembling.

-- Changed preloadings for determining shims for input shaft, output shaft and differential.

-- Differential reinforced.

-- Increased weight.

-- Reduced fluid capacity.

-- Slave cylinder for hydraulic clutch actuation is the same for all engine variants (green sleeve).

Thats ok really. 'cos the MT75 gearbox is the one used in transits. I don't think i'd be proud to say that my Alhambra and my transit have the same gearbox. Its bad enough that the radio system is the same as my old old escort.
Cheers.

Gear box prob....

Hi Yorkie 13,

Noticed you have a problem with gearbox..... You said it sounds like it is struggling to take up drive?

If it is a 6 speed manual gearbox, then I would check the O/S ( right ) drive shaft/diff flange teeth for wear and also the teeth on the Half shaft which fits into the flange..... this is a very common problem as the teeth seem to become dry and start wearing. normally caused by the little seal allowing lubricant to escape. This is easy to check and does not require gearbox to be removed e.t.c.

Hope you get it sorted.

Jochen.

hi everyone, had bother with my service provider so not been online for sometime, found out that planetery gear had shattered, luckily it didn't cause any damage, took gearbox to BRIDLINGTON GEARBOXES on east coast they do collect and deliver for free, he replaced damaged parts and had it back within two days at a cost of £280 inc vat. fitted new clutch and replaced oil, now back on the road. thanks for all your advice. regards john

Hi,
My Alhambra (TDI 115 HP) suddenly stopped going into gear or driving at any rate.
When it is put into gear and the clutch released there is a grinding noise but no power is transmitted to the wheels,
I am thinking it is either a gearbox or clutch issue any ideas?

6 speed box

hi,as my previous thread says, i had difficulty getting any gears, once the box was out i took it to Bridlington gearboxes on the east coast and he chacked it and found that the planetary gear had broken in half, so he replaed it and a couple of other parts, then when i replaced it all was fine. the noise you say sounds exactly like mine did, trying to engage gear, then when you let out the clutch all you hear is a loud grating noise. dont despair it can be repaired, or you can find a recon box on ebay for around £550 with a guarantee. good luck. ps mine happened at 60k i now have 107k on and still going strong.
