6 Speed anyone/

Hi all,

I am fairly new to the forum. "I come from the land down under" in sunny Queensland to be more specfic.

I own a black 1999 Ibiza Cupra 2.0 16V. It's one of only 58 that were sold in Australia I have been told. It is basically standard except for a set of KW V2 coilovers and a short shift kit.

I was wondering has anyone fitted a 6 speed gear box to a Cupra 16V? I would be pleased to get some info on the swap if so, especially which would be the best gear box option. Apologies if it has been discussed previously. I did a search but I couldn't find anything on it.

Cheers.

Don't know of any 6 speed conversions into Mk2 Ibizas. I know people have put 16v gearboxes onto 1.8T blocks, so it may be possible to do it the other way round!

I used to own a Golf VR6 with the standard 5 speed. Now as well as my Cupra I own a Bora V6 4 Motion with a 6 speed. I know that I am not comparing apples with apples but I sure would like the closer spread of ratios that you get with the 6 speed box in my Cupra.

A few guys here in Oz have mentioned an O2G would be a good choice. Apparently the box used in the Bora is way too heavy for the Cupra.

i think there is clearance issue when it comes to fitting later 6 speeds to the mk2 .not 100% but from memory,it fouls on the chassis somewhere. It can be done, anything can be done.

Yes, Thanks. I know of Matt and I have spoken to him. He has some ideas but nothing specific. He was taking about a box out of a Diesel Golf. However unless you could change the final drive ratio I think the overall gearing would be too tall.

Possibly not, there's a 16v on here running with a diesel 5 speed box.
