6 button MIB (non Tech Pack FR) - replacement

Hi there

I have a 2014 FR with what I think is know as the the early 6-button MIB (the same as in this pic I found on another thread).

There is no CD changer in the glovebox (just a USB and possibly an aux in), the CD player is part of the head unit itself. It doesn't have nav or DAB. I believe it's just what you got if you specced an FR without the Technology Pack, certainly towards the start of the Mk3 run.

The CD player has stopped reading discs. Not an issue for me (or probably anyone else in the 21st century) but my wife is oldschool and likes to listen to CDs when she's driving.

Assuming 'get a new wife' and 'tell her to get with the times' are not feasible, what are my options?

If I buy a like for like replacement (there are some on ebay for £50 to £100), would it be a straight swap? Would I need a security code (and if so, how would I go about getting that)?

I don't want to spend massive money on this, I won't be upgrading to MIB 2 or anything like that.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried a head cleaning CD before you splash any cash?
Thanks - I have one turning up today, I'll give it a go but I'm not hopeful (I think there's a reasonable chance some small fingers have pushed a rich tea biscuit or something into the cd slot :cautious:)

No joy with the CD cleaner (in fact, it's not refusing to eject the CD cleaner disc...)

So, can anyone help with what my options are?
