Just rang the dealer today to book the service due (40K) and price was quoted as £258 and additionally they recommended (but not compulsory) brake fluid change for £40.
After reviewing the handbook tonight does anyone know the difference why the 40K interval service should be more expensive than the 20K interval service( which I got for £185 at the same dealer) as on first glance at the handbook they do not seem they do anything more for the extra money or am I missing something. Model is Altea 2.0TDI Sport. Is £258 reasonable or should I shop around at another dealer.?

I have mine serviced at an independent VAG specialist using genuine VAG parts and the correct lubricants... My 20k service came in at £139.

Can't see anything in the maintenance plan that would warrant extra cost at 40k other than poly V-belt check and a check of power steering fluid level although there are further transmission checks for DSG models.

40K service

Update,

Rang another Dealer (Dealer where I purchased the Car) was quoted £295 for the 40K service so I think I will take the first dealer cost of £258.

Will update once its been in as no doubt they may want to claw some extras.!!!

40K Service - 2.0TDI Sport

Update:-

Car been in for 40K Service - with Nothing required, other than routine service and brake fluid change (which was optional) -
They did advise that Front Pads would need replacing at next service - so more than happy for those to be changed and being able to achieve 50K out of those.

Has any of the forum Members required anything major on Altea with say 60-80K miles.

Would be nice to know how well the car is going to soaks up the miles.

At 40k you used t change the air filter and fuel filter and that was the biggest service.

However on the A5 platform cars they have now gone to 60k.

Major 40k Service Cost

Mine is being done today, just had a call from the dealer and they reckon it will come to about £500 for a TDI DSG! If that wasn't so bad they reckon the rear discs and pads have gone - an extra £187 and the fronts aren't that far off!

Gutted

50k service

The time has come for 50K service -(this week).#
Was considering using an independant - however rang dealer and was quoted - £153 so thought that was pretty reasonable - along with probable front brake pad change will probably come in around £250.
No other problems with the car - has anyone had the 60K service done as probably 7 months away from that one.
Any other issues arising after the 50K service i will update this thread.

Thats where I bought my car. 'apparently' they service all 2nd hand motors before they go out. Well they stamped my book, but I agreed to buy about 3o'clock, yet the service was done on same day. I find that hard to belive.

Had me 2.0 TDi sport 40k service carried out by a VAG independant garage two weeks ago, Indie Tech near Bletchley, as recommended by a couple of other forum members, bill came to 200quid including VAT, car felt very smooth afterwards.

Would recommend them.

Saved myself 80 quid as Stealer i used for previous lube service wanted 280 for same service.

Remember to save for the 80K service as thats when you need to replace the cambelt. !! (Only if you have a 2.0tdi engine!)

Cheers
Mark.

I'm absolutely certain that it's 80k, 'cos the dealer did the cambelt on mine at 60k and they always get it wrong. ;)

Seriously though. I just pulled the s ervice booklet out and the Alhambra is 20k sooner than all the others for any diesel engine. The rest of the range are at 80k miles for the pd and 100k for the sdi and non pd tdi (if they're still making any of those).
