3 Beeps on startup?

Hi,

Can somebody tell me why when I put the keys in the ignition and move the keys to the second position (just before starting the engine) I get 3 beeps from the car? There's no warning lights on the console just the beeps??

hmm this is a common thing and nobody has the exact answer iirc, do a search on the dozens of previous posts about this subject, as i can't remember what the possable reasons for it are.

Seatbelt warning noise?

Does it in our new vw transporter

it does it as soon as i turn the key dont think its a seat belt warning

Lights on, door open, fuel warning or seatbelt, not much else it'd peep for!

I have this problem too

I have looked into this and I know that low brake fluid causes the 3 beeps and the handbrake light to come on

I have started to pop the handbrake off before I turn the key and I have found that when I get the 3 beeps I also get the light

I think it's a dodgy brake fluid level sensor but it is part of the reservoir assembly and I don't have the confidence to let the stealers play with my brakes and replace this part

I will just live with it

BTW inserting the key and going straight to start seems to stop the beeps happening

not recomended to any derv owners out there(glowplugs)

but it's allright he's another one of the 20vt clan

didn't think the glowplugs worked unless the outside temp was really low ?

on my mk5 astra I have never seen a glowplug light come on as they only work when it is silly cold

newer diesels have instant start glowplugs but on older vans and derv cars the coil dash light needs to be illuminated to be able to start the engine normally will take 3-4 seconds

Glow plugs only run on the dervs if the temperatures below 7 degrees iirc
