When the time comes to replace all four will I see a noticeable increase should I increase to 215 from 205 tyres?

Thanks :)

I don't think it will be massively noticeable.
I went from 205 to 195 when I first changed tyres and didn't notice to be honest :)

Ive just fitted 215/40/17 to my Cupra here are a few pictures of my wheels. They look better than the stretched look the standard size have. They give a bit of a better ride too.

Yeah, looks good. Aesthetically more pleasing than the OEM arrangement. Noticed any beneficial handling traits as such?

To be honest, I've found different manufacturers have different opinions on tyre sizes. A 195 tyre from one manufacturer might fit the same as a 205 from another. For example, I have conti sport contact 3 on the front, and the sidewalls are slightly proud of the wheels. On the back I have Falken 452, which are much squarer and won't protect the wheels as much. Yet they're both 225 45 17 fit.

It's possible to get 225 s on Cupra TDi rims then?

If you look at the photo's, 747-727 has put 215's on and it brings the sidewalls in a bit. 225's are the norm for those wheels.

Although I don't know if there is a narrower version of the same wheel?

I hear what you're saying but I figure the OEM gear for the Cupra TDi was 205. Unless a previous owner took a cheaper option when it came shelling out on tyres.

Factory are 205/40/17 on MK4 Ibizas.

225/45/17 will ruin the car, it will ruin the turning circle.
It will also sit like a monster truck.
It will also gear the car up, which wrecks fuel economy and wears the clutch out quicker.

Having had an Ibiza on 215/45/17, I would recommend against them. Maybe 215/40/17, or 205/45/17.

What was so wrong about 215 45 17? Can't be too different from 205 45 17?

I'm not sure on how familiar you are with how tyre sizing works.

215/45 are 10mm wider than 205/45. The 45 (profile) is a percentage of the width.

So if you have 205/45 over 215/45, the tyre will be narrower, with a slightly lower profile, but slightly larger profile than standard.
This means the rolling radius will pretty similar to the orginal, but will provide a little bit more cushioning from bumps.

Apologies if you already knew how tyre sizes work!

Not at all, thanks for the info but yes I was aware on the science behind it. But as you say 215 s even with a profile of 45 aren't too dissimilar from 205 45 s. I can't imagine it's gonna interfere with the radius and thus gearing that greatly. You weren't in favour of the 215 45 s why was this?
