Hi, I havent been on the forum for a while. :)

My car was recently stolen, so I'm now looking at a new motor (cheap motor)

I would love an old Polo with a 1.8T lump dropped into it. Has anyone got any words of wisdom for me, advice or a bits i'll definately need?

Is around 2K enough to do this all in? Anyone wana do it for me :p ?

Cheers for any help, Josh

think you'll be need more than 2k, you'll obviously need the whole engine including gearbox, ecu etc. You'll need to uprate the brakes all around, suspension plus other things i prob completely forgotten about

Will need more than £2k. Make sure its a 5 speed box or you will need to modify one of the chassis legs. Mounts are in the wrong places so need fab work there. Inlet mani will be pretty tight to the slam panel and/or turbo to the bulkhead etc etc. Battery also needs moving so you can run a decent filter iirc. Thats before worrying about suspension and brakes. Its not an easy conversion.

Your car got stolen??? wtf whre is it now? Or still gone?

must say an old polo would be sick with a 1.8T. But can;t you get one of those g40 engines? Came standard iirc in a certain model

dont do it tbh, my mate picked up a cheap 6n2 gti to do exactly this....its gonna cost at least 4k plus the polo & a crashed cupra (advisable to get the whole car so you have all the bits)
..and its ALOT of work..custom DP & engine mounts to name a few, plus if its the same as the gti the polo has two wiring looms & the ibiza has one

Buy a cupra & spend that extra money on modding it...there is no benefit to doing this, a mk5 6n2 (same chassis as the 6n/mk4) polo gti with a 1.6 16v weighs in at 1090kg's whereas a cupra weighs 1110kilos with the 1.8T, give or take they end up weighing pretty much the same so its an expensive job just to have a different look..

Mate, pretty good advice (and from everybody else!), Thanks, its kind of what i needed to hear. It was a bit of a dream if im totally honest.

I think I'm going to just get another CUPRA, I miss mine so much!

As soonn as my insurance money comes through I'll be in tghe market hunting for one.

so if anyone has one for me drop me a Pm, I'll probably wont have the funds for a good month or so.

I'm after a black or blue one pref with subtle mods already.

Cheers again guys! :)

Thats how people are stealing cars today tho, they turn up in a recovery wagon with the lights flashing n a micky mouse name on the side, cut the handbrake cables at the back then winch it on. Then drive away and no1 batters an eye lid because they think its just broken down. Its shocking. Hope you manage to get a decent price for it and get a new car sorted, as said about how bout a mk2 ibiza 1.8t

as above i was a member of clubpolo for a while and unless you got a show stopping polo with everything else done it's only then ,you'd even consider 1.8t'ing a polo mk4/5, 6n/6n2 are 95% the same with the 6n 16v coming in at 1050kg's and the 6n2 gti coming in at 1090kg's.

i did ponder doing the same to my old 6n2 gti but ended up putting the above mentined g40 engine from the mk3 polo. it turned out to be the first one but it certainly wasn't cost effective and i had to strip the luxuries out of it to get the weight down.

i'd say i could diy it for a shade under 3k without buying the car that is.

as above it is a large outlay with minmal gains in weight wise, just the look would really be different as we know the seat ibza shares a few parts with the polo.

a few blokes on clubpolo have done it cosing them 6k all in.

To be honest I thought the 2K was a bit unrealistic.

I will just get a Cupra at the start of next year...Unless the perfect S3 turns up. The mk2 ibiza is cool, but i prefer the mk3.

I've been looking through some interresting threads/readers rides and some of the progress ppl have made on their Cupras is wicked...maybe a few might pop up in the for sale section soon :p
