2018 Ateca Infotainment screen smashed - replacement options?

Hello, I woke up today to find my 2018 Ateca TDI 1.6 infotainment LCD has been smashed beyond repair (I am assuming I left my car unlocked, no sign of forced entry and it's not a keyless model)

The head unit still works as I can hear the radio and Android Auto, it's the touchscreen / LCD itself thats been damaged :(

I really want to keep costs down as much as poss because I have very little money at the moment - was hoping I could do this myself for less than whatever an insurance excess might cost (assuming they'd even pay out, which they probably wouldn't!)

I've been looking around for replacement parts and I can see the LCD screen / button section available on well-known auction sites.

What I don't know is: are these screens coded to the head unit or do they just fit any Ateca? Or could I maybe just replace the LCD part itself?

I've swapped out screens in smartphones before so I'm not afraid of opening things up if I have instructions, but I know pretty much zero about car infotainment systems and I don't want to break anything even further.

If anyone has any advice at all about this we would be so grateful

Sooo I bit the bullet and bought a used infotainment LCD display unit from the auction site at an OK price. And it works.

It's actually a very slightly different, and I think older model (button layout a bit different & has SOUND instead of NAV button - but you can access the NAV from the menu or voice commands anyway) - but it works perfectly well, with no coding/pairing required, works with Android Auto and anything I've tried. What a relief!

Fitting it was very straightforward - I just had to remove the bezel around the instrument cluster, then pop off the panel with the 2 air vents. Used a cheap plastic prying set I bought from Amazon.

Getting the unit out was easy and didn't require any specialist tools, there are 4 clips that you can just push in with a small flat head screwdriver or similar.

Possibly the swap of the nav for sound button may be due to that one being labelled up for the cheapskates units that didn't have navigation - the near bottom of the line. But your button press gives you sound, so a 1-1 mapping for the media《cheapskates》unit and you find navigation on the menu.

It's this one... looked it up, thought I'd better not be lazy:

5"
/ Media System Touch
– 5.0" monochrome touchscreen
– Bluetooth® audio streaming and handsfree system
– Sound features: MP3/WMA
– Connectivity: USB and SD card
– Four speakers
– FM Radio

8"
/ Media System Plus
– 8.0" colour touchscreen with proximity sensor
– Combined USB/Aux-in port
– SD card slot
– FM Radio
– Integrated voice control
– Eight speakers
/

You will have that one. The 8" screen. The Media System Plus screen....

For reference the June 2016 Ateca launch price list which gives the options and where your screen fitted in. That one was on the Ateca SE. First Edition and Xcellence got navigation with the button 😉. Must be the pin out on the unit allows you to match it to the mib2 unit in the glove box. Menu gets matched to menu etc.

Great fitting diagram for anyone else that needs to replace.
