Hi all,
I’m having a nightmare with my 63 plate Ibiza FR. I’ve had a fault reverse light for a while now, when i first bought the car it worked absolutely no bother and one day just ended up packing in and not working. I replaced the bulb and the reverse light switch on the gearbox, which worked spot on for about a week until i discovered that the reverse light was on constantly whenever the ignition was on.
I had the car in the garage yesterday, with hopes it was just faulty wiring or maybe water ingress to the plug. The lad changed the wiring but no success and recommended me to an auto electrician. After speaking to the guy on the phone he said that it is a common issue for the BCM on VAG group cars to **** itself and start throwing out random electrical faults. He recommended removing the BCM and sending it away for an Ebay refurb/reprogramming and that should solve issues.
This then brings me a few questions:
Is such a big issue something that can be diagnosed over the phone, or would a faulty BCM show more symptoms than only one electrical fault?
Could there be any other causes for this? I’ve scoured this website looking for any information and i’ve found that even things such as an old/dying battery can cause the ibizas to throw random faults?
If anyone has experienced anything similar please let me know. My head is absolutely battered by what i thought would have been a simple fix but is now seeming to be a rather expensive and time consuming one. Cheers!
