2011 leon, petrol or diesel help

Hi everyone,

I've not posted on here before , hopefully I will be once actually purchasing a leon

I currently drive a 53 plate 1.4 astra petrol. It's not very eco and lacks power. It also really bugs me that the revs hit 3k at 60mph in 5 th gear

I'm looking to buy an 11 plate leon, and there's a good selection of either petrol or diesel for less than 8k

I'm really interested in economy and reliability. My friend has the 2.0 f r, granted its 2007 but I'm impressed by his mpg figure s.

I'll be looking to buy the emocon model and original I was dead set on the 1.6 diesel. But I've since

1) seen alot of threads about dpf issues (even when driven as directed by seat)
2) read reviews about the 1.2 tsi claiming great mpg for a petrol

The car will be the weekend family car ( family trips) and the odd shorter trip when my wfe is off work (shops). We have a smaller fiesta diesel that will soak up all the Mon to fri work mileage , which is when we don't need all the space for the kids

What would people recommend in my circumstances, 10k a year wont be going on this car so I am best with the petrol to avoid dpf issues (not any difference UN purchase price) or should I go for the diesel as ill mainly be using it long w distance at weekends where dpf SHOULDNT be an issue. Also I'm guessing a lower mileage diesel might hold its value better

Im not concerned about remembering t o drive in a way that the dpf can do it s thing, more concerned that it may be a. Fundamental issue with the diesel car. The injectors and dmf are already an added concern when purchasing my first diesel. But great mpg and keeping the monthly fuel cost down is a must.

Please all any thoughts and stories from your own experiences would be brilliant

The 1.6tdi CR engine doesn't suffer from DPF issues. I think your budget is too low to get a 2.0tdi CR 140 or 170. MPG from the 1.6tdi can be in the 50s as a real figure (not trip reading).

1.2tsi - I used to have one. I had it mapped to 130bhp and it did have better mpg after the map, that said I achieved 37.5mpg in total over about the 15k miles I tracked.

If anything I'd be wary of ultra low mileage diesels as that may mean lots of town driving putting more strain on the DPF. for a 2011 I wouldn't let 60k put you off - my current 2.0tdi 170 is a September 2011 and I've got 50k on mine now, it's only just run in!

I've seen a few threads about the 1.6tdi engine having dpf issues (although posters claim to drive correct). I'm sure I'm worrying over nothing. What revs did your 1.2 cruise at on the motorway, was the mpg not great over 60mph?.I'm sick of sticking at 60 I'm my astra (

Also, your current car, have you had to have any major bits done and would you recommend it as a small family car. Wish I could convince the mrs that the fr is the best option

Can't remember the exact revs to be honest, was a while ago since I got rid. A lot of my mileage was motorway cos I travelled between Teesside and Liverpool a lot.

My current one has been remapped recently too, although not sure on power yet. It's on coil overs too and a few other bits. The CR170 is a great engine, if you could increase your budget to it I'm sure you wouldn't regret it!

Don't go for an 08 as that would be a PD engine which do experience DPF issues. You want may 09 onwards really. Early 09 plate cars were face lifted but with the PD engine rather than CR.

You can get the 2.0tdi 140 CR in FR spec, and the 1.4TSi (120/140 can't remember) in the FR spec too. May be worth looking at them? 1.4tsi can be alright for fuel economy if driven sensibly

Wasn't the 1.4 only put in the FR later on , after 2010? I know we had an 08 1.4 reference sport, cracking car other than the bone shaking ride..... Was 125bhp iirc

Yeah it was he said he's looking for a 2011 car though so the 1.4tsi could be an option, not sure on prices though!

1.4 went in the fr when they split the FR and FR+ after 2012 sometime.

I don't want to know what 1.4tsi 11plates are worth

I been doing some more browsing, still swinging towards the 1.6 diesel.

I've seen one in black 36k 2011 (10 plate) for 7k - get down to 6.5k while trading in my scrap car

Also one in black 37k 2011 (61 plate) for 8k which has stop start. - get down to 7.5k while trading in my scrap car

Both are the emomotive.

Whats the difference between the Emocion and the ecomotive. The seat website lists these separate, errors?

I'd rather obviously spend 6.5k, however the more expensive model is the COPA so has the Bluetooth and a few other things, as well as the start stop. Has anyone got the start stop, is it another of those things that could break? DOes it save that much fuel. I will be unlikely to be doing a lot of inner town stopping and starting. Obviously everyone has to start and stop on a journey though.

Both are in nice condition.

You could get a CR 170 FR for 8 Grand if you have a look. Mileage will be about 70k too.

Start stop would bring you down a tax bracket probably. If it's £30 a year vs £0 a year it wouldn't really matter though.

If the cheaper car has no fogs it maybe the base model, where as copa has the toys mentioned plus alloys.

You don't really see problems with start stop from what I know.

It might sound daft but what about taking into account re-sale value. Would the more expensive car hold its value better in three years due to the toys/start stop.

Compare the miles vs. Age also to get an idea of the price your paying. E.g one car is older but low miles, the other is newer but 'slightly' more miles.

I got my Leon Fr as my baby was due the following year. It's a 2ltr petrol. I average around 26mpg. Can get more on longer runs and lower around town. Great family car. Plenty boot space too

The £7k one is a 1.6TDI CR ecomotive S 5DR 36k miles (3 months warranty, full service history)

The £8k one is a 1.6TDI CR ecomotive S Copa 37k miles (+1 year warranty, full seat service history)

The £8k one states "cornering front foglights" in the tech specs.

The £7k one doesn't state anything about front foglights, but the picture certainly looks like it has them. Other than that the only difference to me seems to be, different alloys, Bluetooth and no tax on the COPA. £1k difference,hmmmm.

Could anybody confirm if the £7k model has foglights?

If you don't mind going on auto trader, searching for black leon, 3 years old, 40k max miles, max prce £7k, min price £6.5k. Its the Tunstall motors one VE60 PYX

If it has alloys, it won't be base model, and it'll probably definitely have fogs and cornering function.

The warranty is a better selling point for me.

The value on the 7k car seems to be lower than average miles. Where as the 8k car has bang on average 10k a year.



Any of them automatic?
