2 bucket method

Two buckets of hot water - one clean fresh water, the other with your chosen brand of car shampoo.

Dip your mitt in the soapy water clean a small section of the bodywork and then rinse the mitt in the clean water. Once the mitt is clean you can then dip in the soapy water again and repeat.

The idea is that the dirt and grit coming off the car ends up trapped in the water not floating around in your soapy water ready to be scraped all over the next panel

Both those pages should get you pretty much up to speed!

Definetly worth getting at least one grit guard bucket and two mitts if you havent got them already.

how does the grit guard work exactly, do you rub the mitt over the grit guard after rinsing it?

I have one bucket with a grit guard where I have the 'dirtier' water. Dip into clean bucket, wash car, dip into gritguard bucket and rub on gritguard, ring out, dip into clean water bucket...repeat.

Then the grit falls to the bottom of the bucket underneath the guard so you shouldn't have a dirty mitt that can cause scratching and swirling.
