2.0L 16V Short Shift

Hi,

What are the main differences between the 020 box and the 02A?

I've got my eye on a short shift linkage for an 020 box but it looks like the linkage is a fixed rod change rather than the 02A cable linkage..?

Is that correct, obviously don't want to be buying a linkage for the wrong gearbox

short shifters on the 16v make an already iffy change shorter and still just as iffy mate, save the money and put more towards a port and flow job on the head.
But yea the 02a is cable change and the 020 is rod change.

hmm ok thanks for the tip.

Simply going to hack the stick down an inch or so then i think to shorten the throw distance instead. Got my lovely blue carbon weave gear knob in the car which is looking spangly

if you still have your standard knob on then just replace it, dont go hacking it until youve done that as the std one is really tall compared to the likes of a smaller one that fits in the palmof your hand. I know a fella that cut his and it was way too short.

heh i have my other one on now and its standing proud of the console by about 3 inches heheh so i think lowering it an inch will make it a nice comfy distance to rest my hand on

i stuck a momo jobbie on mine, made alot of difference as the standard crapy gearknob is huge.. its also perfectly positioned for the formentioned window operation with finger whilst holding the gearknob

I found the short shifter I fitted much better!

No more long throws between gears and it feels more direct when you change gears.

I brought it from someone off here, fitted it to his audi a3 for 30mins and the wife didn't like it.

Hmmm, I think i'll go with the hacksaw idea for the time being and see how I get on.

Would love an actual short shift kit but 165 is out of my price range

The B&Ms are good, but you need to take them apart and nutlock all the trhreads as they do develop play other wise (easy job) The worst thing was when the splitt pin holding the shifter to the rod broke - the shifter disconnected from the rod linkage and i couldnt change gear - i was 10miles from home in 3rd! that wasnt good for the old clutch.

In short, get a B&M, it shortens throw but the play in each slot is still prevalant.

I too had that pin mysteriously pop out for no reason, I had just left Awesome after a RR day and it went a mile down the road - gear stick went all floppy lol and stuck in gear, limped back to awesome and pulled the whole thing apart and put the pin back in
