Just thought I would ask the question on here.
Just had 4 new tyres fitted 225/45W17.
On the drive home I got the low pressure warning.
In the dark I set the pressures to the top setting for unladen 42f/39r (I think) next day I drove it , it felt horrible and really noisy.
Checked on line, including the sites that gave you pressures by reg. and they all said 35f/32r.
Yet when i checked the plate it said 38f/35r
On checking online I cant see a single site using those figures.
I have set it to the pressure on the plate, but thought I would ask the opinion of any other ST cars.
The only reason I ask is because my motorbike recommended ( for the 4 years of manufacture) pressures of 36f/42r. Only after lots of feedback did they change it to 34f/36r- quite a difference for a bike!
Thanks in advance

On my Leon ST I run 38psi front and 36psi rears. Never had an issue with handling or tyre wear, bump that up to 40/38 if I’m loading the boot up with stuff and I’ve a full set of passengers. I always found the values stamped in the plate on the car made it too firm/fidgety.
Oddly the recommended tyre pressures for the VW Golf mk7 estate (which is literally the same chassis) are lower

My 184 ST tdi has 32 front and rear on its sticker. Tyre wear is fine/even. 225.45R17
The later cars have stickers recommending higher pressures - to "help" with emissions/efficiency test - but in the real world I doubt you will be able to measure an efficiency benefit going from say 32 to 36. I have tried and I can't measure a difference - buy the car does feel worse, more bumpy.

Ah that’s interesting! Yeah mines a 2018 and has higher pressures listed, didn’t know the prefacelift version had lower values!

@Stringman mine are the 18” OEM alloys, sorry should probably have added that originally!

My 2020 Cupra ST 4drive on 235/35 R19 tyres has 39 psi front and rear on the sticker. When I had it serviced at my local independent they set the pressures to 35 psi front and rear. This has a marginal effect on fuel consumption but has dramatically improved the ride om Britain's potholed roads.

It is too early to say whether tyre wear is still even.
