I've read a hundred post about tapping into the boost pipework to fit a boost gauge, and it all made sense till I tried to find the appropriate pipework in my car, as per the thread title. Now I have realised how little i know about the majority of my engine.

Can some one tell me what each of the parts in these images are if I am right to think that if i tapped into the part marked A that would be the intercooler pipework and that would be suitable for boost?

Any information or suitable tap points welcomed.

The second image is taken looking down the back of the radiator/intercooler? between the manifold and airbox intake.

1. Diesel filter.

2. Vacuum reservoir.

3. Exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR).

4. Oil filter housing.

5. Anti shudder valve.

Yes A is boost pipework but it's also pretty inaccessible. Why not tap into the boost hose directly under the anti shudder valve?

Awesome thanks for that Viking.

When you say the one below do you mean the aluminium one directly under in the picture.. Or will I find a another rubber one directly under the shudder valve if i go out and look?

1. Diesel Filter.
2. Vacuum Damper.
3. EGR Valve.
4. Oil Filter.
5. Regulator Flap.

A is the bottom intercooler pipe yes. I'd thought it better to plug into the pipe just under #5 as it enters the inlet manifold.

on the EGR replacement pipe that Allards done there was a hole built into the pipe for it. hehe looks like you beat me to it....

Oh wait.. i'm getting my 4 and 5 mixed up.. so the main pipe that goes into the shudder valve/flap.

Brilliant that would be much better, A sore knuckles job is already seeming much less painful guys!

Next question, can i just whip that pipe off and refit after tapping? And what does removing/bypassing the EGR do?

Edit.. I'm reading up on EGR stuff now ;)

Yeah, the pipe just removes very easily. Just a clip to remove and then it's away. There was a thread on here somewhere showing how to fit a hosetail into a rubber pipe. I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: Disregarding the fact that this is on a 1.9 engine, the hosetail fitting process will be the same. Have a browse...

Link.

Thanks for the info and link mate.. I'll make sure to update a thread with my progress. I have a hose tail on it's way.. hopefully i'll be able to fit it snuggly then I can get to work getting the gauge hooked and then worry about any buzzes etc.

Thank you Toxic as well for taking the time to post :)

I got it fitted a while ago but wasn't happy with the fit of the hosetail even though it is bolted on secure with a locknut and ptfe tape, it still had a slight leak.. So I got hold of a proper revotec hosetail.

The revotec bit has a much better seal and is much more stable.

Thanks again for the help locating the pipe guys.

Ps for anyone who takes the pipe off.. If you replace the clip on the lower bit before the pipe, you can simply push the pipe back into position and it will lock in place. This save trying to get the clip in place with the pipe in your way.
