Hi there,

Just got the car at the weekend, 75k on the clock. Done the usual and changed plugs and leads (direct replacements not performance just yet), air and almost ready to do oil and filter but sump plug feels like its been welded on. Getting ALL belts replaced this week...anyway off on a tangent... The car pulls to the right not majorly but it does pull. Does anyone know the correct geometry settings like the camber and caster? I want that straight before I take it out. It does have 16's on it but I can always take it to the local garage and get them to check it out. Just wondered if anyone knows. I got this car for £1700 is that a good price or was I stiched?

Also what do I need to look for with these cars...its pretty good for a 97 (R) and i'm happy but just want to stay ahead of the game.

I'm the kind of owner who services every 6-8k anyway but if I notice anything going funny then I know...

So many questions!

I was told it was a ltd edition by the owner, its a rusty metalic orange and has recaro seats. not sure what else defferentiates them to be honest...completely clueless about the car...

Yeah I really don't know if there is such a thing as a Ltd edition...but it looks fine to me and went ok with a hugely clogged up standard air filter on the way home...so i'm happy...It will be all sorted and should drive sweet if i get the geometry setup...

Welcome along dude, great to have another owner on the forum.

The Recaros were a factory option that not many people opted for. I wouldn't say they were "limited edition" though!

Look like this..

Can you see any weld on the sump plug? If not then the chances are it's just seized up a bit. Brute force will probably shift it but go careful! Mine was a reet bugger a few weeks ago.

If it's pulling to one side it might be worth going for 4 wheel alignment check, especially if the suspension has been changed/lowered.

I wouldnt even bother upgrading the plugs itll not make any difference. Be careful with the sump plug, use a pair of mole grips and have a spare when you do get it off as itll need replacing, they are only a pound or two from the dealers.

the sump has cracked on a few occassions when servicing, usually because dealers very rarely drop the oil this way.
a pella pump is a very worthwhile purchase.mines paid for itself in the last 3 services i have used it.no more lying on the drive struggling.

Cheers for the tips guys! ;)

I will get some pics up once I have given it the all important first wash and wax. Always whenever you get a nice car, it seems, maybe this is me, but you always (even if its clean) have to get the bucket out, good wash and wax so you know you've done it your way and know the little bits of the car...like a scratch here a bump here...weird!

The service history, bit of a dark one here, but the guy who sold it to us is a family friend, a good one! His mother, dont ask how managed to throw the original intruction book, s/history and log book! So who knows, I am treating the car like a 200k mileage and once its all been checked and serviced will have trust in it. I have given it a good look round, no dodgy welds, no splashed rust water or oil patches, by the looks it really only has done 75k for a 10yr old car its not bad really. Its put 35k on in the last two years...! The odd scuff and bump of london driving but I can live with that.

I'm interested to hear about this pella pump...whats the crack with that then?

Yeah I checkd myself to see if some nut had welded the sump plug but its all clear. Just some seriously gym'd up mechanic got his hands on it! I think it will defo need a new plug because after 10min of some strenous on your back yanking action (easy, NOT what your thinking) it started the odd slip and I think for ease I will get a dealer to get it out and put a new one it.

Its funny though, you really dont see many of these cars about but, I have seen one in the last 3 weeks (GTI).

Yeah defo getting the alignment check done, the suspension is standard as far as i can tell its stiff but doesn't break your back over bumps.

Obvisouly i'll get some pics up, but what I paid for it is that good or reasonable?

Quite a lot of dealers have stopped using the Pella pumps now, VAG are changing a lot of the service sheets outlawing them. Sump bungs should always be replaced on cars with an alloy sump and tightened to 30nm.

The guy who bought my cordy interior had them recaros in his ibiza and found the uncomfy to the extent he swapped the drivers seat over to the half leather no sooner than he handed the cash over!
