17s on standard suspension

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum, used to own a slightly modified Polo, but bought my Mk3 Cupra from villakev (on this forum) as I wanted something quicker!

Got quite a lot of things planned for it, but since I've been on too many holidays this summer, I need to save a bit of cash first.

Got a few questions to start off with which I haven't been able to find the answer to after a lot of searching through old posts:

Is anyone running 17s on standard Cupra suspension? Basically my tyres will need replacing in the next few months, but since I want to get some new alloys it would be best to do them at the same time. If anyone has any pictures of what it looks like it would be great. Also wondering if its going to make the handling much worse? When I changed from 13s to 15s on my Polo on standard suspension, it was bloody awful, tramlining and skitting all over the place. Got a lot better when I changed the suspension, but was always too firm!

The 205/40/17s are not much bigger in diameter than the 195/45/16s, but the smaller the sidewall (only 5mm) will be a bit stiffer and then the suspension is no longer properly matched to the wheels.

I'd like to change the suspension, but can't afford to at the moment. Has anyone compared the Seat Sport Suspension to FK (or other) coilovers? I'd prefer to get suspension which Seat may have had some invlovement in developing and it isn't too low, but it's pretty expensive.

Finally, what are peoples thoughts on custom made stainless exhausts compared to the blueflame/milltek/suspersprint/jetex ones. My exhaust will also need replacing soon, so want to get a stainless one. My main rwason for being interested in a custom one is so that I can get them to make sure its not too noisy, don't wanna sound like a complete chav!

Anyway, this has turned into a bit of a long post, sorry about that.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers
Andy

Mines on standard suspension at the mo on 17's, pics coming soon, no problems with handling etc.

As for exhausts, i'd stick with anything other than custom, milltek are nice and quite, with a nice burble when booting it, not intrusive at all!

Nice one, cheers.

They don't look too bad at all on 17s with standard suspension which is good, didn't want it to look like it was on stilts! Then I can get the suspension done later when I can afford it. I'm favouring seat sport kit at the mo, but it's a hard choice considering you can get coilovers cheaper.

The milltek was the exhaust I was favouring slightly, anyone got any sound clips or videos? Sure it's been asked before, but never found any.

A few of the 17s with 4x100PCD I've seen come with offset of ET40. That puts them 2mm further inboard plus half an inch for the width. Is anyone else running this, just wondering if they'll scrub on the inside of the arches or on the suspension struts? There's always spacers I suppose...

Cheers guys,

Looks like I should be fine getting the 17" wheels & tyres first and other bits later.

Exhaust comes next, as long as the current one doesn't fall to pieces too soon.

Then is it suspension or engine or brakes, who knows!
