I've read there is a ground problem some times but i've checked the earth point.

Cleared it and taken it for a run but they still come strait on! think i've read it may be one of the pins that earth it so may have to get that done.

But it drives ok all the time

I've looked on here and all over the web there are loads of threads with this problem but none really say anything about them getting solved just try vw coil packs.

strange because if you have an open circuit thats means you have ether no live or earth so you would have a missfire surly

I'm thinking there may be a broken earth wire wich is still connected but only just which is going to be a right sh*t to find. I'm going to try some vw coils hopefully if i can change in the ones i've put on. as it seems a few people have done this and solved the problem. so i'l try that before i put in new earth leads.

it seems this is quite commen but with not many solutions!

Right i've just got some original manufacters coils now i'm getting it on every cylinder! open circuit what does it mean i've taken the battery out checked the earth checked all the connections. the car runs and drives fine just the engine warning light is on. Got it going into autobahh ann monday to get the neuspeed arbs put on so i'm going to get them to look at it if i can't solve the problem over the weekend. Just hope the 20mile drive wont balls the car up!!

sounds like the wrong coilpacks.

I described this yesterday in a different thread about coilpacks. That the car will run fine on them but the computer notices that they are not meant specifically for your car. The light will stay on until you get the proper ones.

I had this for about a month. Mine was due to tripple A supplying me one.

yeah it is. I did for more than a month. Like said the coils do work without misfires. Except engine management notices that they are not the proper ones so leaves the light on. WHen you delete the code it just comes back as soon as you rev the car. It will dissapear as soon as you get the right coils in.

As for which ones, you need the ones with the partnumber listed in the mk3 parts list

by the way, this is what i think it is...as I had the same problem...but you'll know more as soon as you check what the part number is on the coils you have in now.
