140 or 170 - advice please

After a year living without my Ibiza FR I'm thinking of returning to VAG. I need something more economical than my 330 coupe but I don't want to loose all the power.

Question is if I get a 2.0 TDI and look to give it the hybrid treatment does it make any difference if I get the 140 or 170 as a starting point? Would the end power be the same? Also, does it make any difference if I get a leon or A3?

Thanks in advance for your advice :D

Biggest issue for tuning to higher power would be the DPF which is fitted to the 170 engine. If you're going to be tuning in a serious way then you need to have that mapped out of the equation, or physically removed.

I'm not planning on going massive with the tuning aka DevonMikeyBoy but I'd like to see similar performance to the BM which had 231 bhp....

Get a PD170. Several companies like P-Torque and CC can remove the DPF and remap to 220-230bhp for about £900. You would be looking at spending thousands and fitting a hybrid turbo to any other 1.9/2.0 diesel engine to get that power.

Great advice, thanks

I assume I'd still need a new clutch and that isn't included in the £900?

Any other problems I am likely to encounter? Cooling etc?

I think torque is quoted at around 330lb so you might get away without needing to fit an uprated clutch but if it was me i would be saving for one so you can get the most from the remap and not have to worry about the clutch going. Only thing i would check up on is what happens at MOT time as the DPF is a safety and emissions device that should put the engine into limp mode if not working properly so totally different to a CAT. I know diesels are only tested for smoke but there might be new regs saying cars with DPF`s must have them fitted for safety reasons etc. I doudt it but i would check just to make sure. I doudt there would be any mechanical problems to worry about as such but better breaking would be helpful.
