I have searched and tbh got fairly confused...

Is the best thing to use for my 110 tdi a fully synthetic oil?

I know it needs to be 505.00 specific.

any recommendations? Searching shows GTD Magnatec 5w-40 was recommended a few times but the search brought up posts from years ago.

I've previously just gone to the dealer but thought I'd see if i can get a decent oil and/or save money this time.

Thanks a lot guys, need to do an oil change soon!

I think the car ought to use fully synthetic, but I have also had specialist advice saying that semi-synthetic is ok also for my driving style (ie mainly commuting). For the last 30k miles I have used semi-synthetic from the specialist, and only last month I decided to change to fully and now running with some Shell Helix Diesel Ultra.
hope this helps.

Go for the best oil you can afford. I have driven 30k+ miles in the lats 18 months with semi-synthetic without any issues (as far as i am aware) if you can afford fully synthetic then use it (thats what I have changed back to fully synthetic). Not sure if there is any particular performance differences depending on type of oil for this engine in all honesty. (I have just replaced the coolant temperature sensor so will be tricky to determine specific benefits between one oil and another)

I once enquired about oil type at National Tyres and they advised fully synthetic from the database. You could pm oilman on the forum, he supplies some Fuchs oil that I had my eyes on prior to buying Shell.

Sorry to Jump on ur thread but im having the same dilemma, there seems to be so many combinations that i just cant work out which may be best!

slightly different car - I've got a 2004 Leon - 1.9tdi SE 130 -

can anyone recommend type of oil which is best to use;

Will it be the same type like the halfords one as linked to above? im assuming my tdi is a PD engine..

Thanks!

That's the beauty about the VAG Oil Spec. Doesn't matter about what brand, what viscosity or what price. As long as the bottle has 505.01, that's all you need to worry about

Tdi 110 oil.

Hi, I use standard Castrol GTX diesel,meets VW 505.00 standard as in handbook? Now at 110k miles,changed every 8000 miles,takes 15 mins with a Pela. On sale at Tesco's garages at £6.88 for 2 litres.
