Had my cupra tdi a week now and loving it. Its a 56 with 6k on it. It feels so gripy and handles so much better than leon. Few problems I have had which shud be rectified on friday:

1. Steering wheel offset

2. Peeling brake calipers

3. Brakes seem to need alot of pressure for them to work

4. Strip of plastic thats wraps around the dials is poping up

5. chips on door card where seat belt hits it when released

6. Fuel cap not flush

7. rust type colour on tops on brakes discs...normal???

These are just small niggles and are not major problems. Just love driving the car and look forward to getting into it all the time. Also fantastic service from Jennings (esp mark, jamie and andy)!

soundslike you need the tracking adjusted approx £30 to get the steering wheels straight fuel flap can be adjusted open it up and push the black inner plastic in as hard as you can as this might not be clipped in completly get brakes bled to sort the spongey brakes as it sound like there is air in the system.

try and get a 4 wheel alignment done if poss on the tracking, it cost about £50 but every wheel setting can be adjusted not just the toe settings most places check. this sorts out offset wheels, steering "pull" and uneven tyre ware even the ibiza's known problem of the inside edge waring quicker as a common fault can be resolved

The slight surface rust on the brake disc is also normal, you'll find it more when washing the car.

The discs are made from untreated steel and will therefore rust in the places which are not cleaned by the disc pads. Unavoidable, I think, unless they you can afford carbon fibre discs.:)

the whole quality of the plastics is beyond shite in an ibiza..taking a seat belt off dents things, moving around in the passenger seat marks things....i swear looking at it makes it mark as well!
grrr....

When mine was new my wife rested a wire bound map against the dashboard to read it while we were on holiday. Not a good idea.:(

They seem to be most vulnerable in the first few weeks of ownership - I don't think the plastics have fully cured when they leave the factory meaning they mark even more easily.

1. Steering wheel offset

HI Guys

I have just bought a FR TDI (55 Reg) 2 Weeks ago and i have the same problem.

I bought it from a VW dealer and at the time i just though that the tracking was out, so they got that sorted for me. After driving it for a week i couldn't understand why when i was going straight the steering wheel wasn't level or centred.

I took it to my Local Dealers this week caused the engine management light was on but when it was there i asked them to look at the steering wheel alignment for me. When i picked it up they said it wasn't a warranty issue and to have a look at it, it would need to go on a 4 pot stand (Thats what they said) and it was going to cost me £62.50 an hour :-o and it will be on there for an hour an a half.

Is this a common fault or when it was being made they just rushed when it came to putting the steering wheel on?

My steering wheel is slightly off center, shall have to get it looked at me recons as it veers to the left slightly when i let go of the wheel.

Leigh...wtf dude? mine still marks now like 9 months on....

I got a really bad scuff on my door sill (the plastic bit) in the first week of owning it from just dragging my foot across it. I was really careful then about it for a few weeks, but since then I've done it a million times and its not marked any more.....

My Dad found the same thing on his Ibiza ('03 S). When his was new he gave someone a lift and they were gesturing whilst talking and caught their finger nail across the dash - scratched it - but since then its been knocked and bashed loads of times - no more marks.

Obviously, really big knocks like the seat belt buckle hitting it are going to create a lot of damage, but it seems to me they are definitely worst in the first few weeks after being delivered

That could possibly be the steering wheel righting itself TD?

Dunno, had new tyres at the begining of the year, and since then the steering wheel has always been slightly off center and pointing towards the right,
