A friend of mine has a 2 year old 1.9tdi very nice car I want one. Well I did! They were driving along a dual carriage way when the engine and most of the electrics just died. Luckily the hazard warning lights worked and they were able to cost to the side of the dual carriage way. After a while the electrics came back on but the engine refuses to start, and still does. It has gone to a SEAT garage and they said that they must have put petrol in by mistake and would cost X amount to drain and clean out ect.

Now correct me if I am wrong but how can putting petrol in affect electrics? It was lucky that my friends still had the receipt which said diesel and the garage was quickly told it had diesel put in. My friend is a nurse and because of the odd shifts she needs a car to get to work. She also does agency work in the community which again needs a car. The garage has had the car for a week now and every time she rings to find out what is happening she is told they have been busy and haven’t even looked at it yet (so how can they say it’s had petrol put in it?).

Found this site and after searching it looks like a relay 109 problem would this car 2 years old have a relay109, Or does anyone else have any ideas?

Still want one, though I wouldnt use a SEAT garage for servicing ect

Putting petrol in a diesel won't kill the electrics, we all know that! Sounds like the dealer is currently making excuses.

On the subject of it not being looked at, has the dealer booked the car onto the diary? You understand that they have to work on the cars that have already been booked in, but they should allocate a time in the diary so they can look at it properly.

Does your friend have a loan car? If not, call customer services and demand one. They should send a hire car to her home!

Having a car at a dealers for a few weeks before even looking at it seems pretty common thing for a seat dealer!.

I love my Arosas but the one thing that lets them down is the dealers. Now thankfully they are not in warranty anymore so i dont have to deal with the stealers. Since the warranty has ran out i have not had one problem (touch wood)

Its about time Seat dealers were better!

I hope your friend gets their car sorted out asap, i take it its under warranty?

Have they not been offered a courtesy car?

Well they thought it was under warranty, but it expired 4 weeks ago typical! I think my friends just assumed Seat car, Seat garage rather than an independent. I think that they thought that as they were Seat they would have a better idea of how to fix it (not my experience of garages).

As regards it being booked in well it was booked in and that is when they were told it was petrol in the tank. Now I have known tanker drivers to put the wrong liquid in the wrong tank before, but then you would have a lot of diesel drivers breaking down and it would probably be in the local newspapers ect but nothing. Then later in the week they get told we haven’t had time to look at it yet. Seems to me they have just assumed it’s a woman she must have put petrol in.

The only problem is they do not know what they have let themselves in for. If you could feel sorry for what they are about to receive, but as you say they are stealers so no we wont feel sorry. After my friend has finished with them I don’t know if they will have any ear drums left. They don’t want to go to A&E anytime soon............

The only way to be with dealers if firm, or you wont get anywhere.

So good luck to your mate :)
