1.9 or 2.0 tdi leon?

Hi.

I am thinking of upgrading my 1.9tdi 100bhp to a leon. My budget is around £7000-8500.

The things that are most important to me are looks (that is why I have ruled out a focus!) and reliability. I hear the 2.0tdi may not be as reliable as a 1.9.

As for preformance I think a 1.9tdi remaped to 130bhp would be sufficient for me(can you get a 1.9 130bhp as standard?).

Also one more question is the suspension in the sport model really that harsh?

Any opinions much appreciated.

The reference sport 2.0tdi remapped will give you around 180hp with loads of torque and NO DPF exhaust filter thats the main reliabilty problem, down the line/age] and the suspension IS softer too!! Course if your pokets are deep you can get around 400hp using diesel+propane+nitro - the choice is yours. ........................!!

yeah you can get a 1.9tdi mapped to 130. ive got one and its at 145bhp and 250ftlb at the moment just from the map. was done at rs tuning. rs tuning also say my engine can produce around 160ish bhp and 300ish ftlb with just a remap but the clutch restricts it.

My 1.9TDI is remapped by ABT to 135hp and it's almost as fast as a standard 2.0TDI.
But I would look for a 2.0TDI. The 2.0 has a 6 speed gearbox instead of the 5 in the 1.9. I also drove the 2.0 and it's a better engine. Smoother, both in sound and power delivery. But the company budget prevented me getting it.
The sport model's suspension is very harsch, the eibach/HR lowering springs are softer according to a lot of people.

Both can have issues with de DPF, mine is problemfree for about 130000km now but that could be because I cane it quite often and 95% of my journey's are fast motorway travelling. This keeps the DPF quite empty I've heard.
The 1.9's other weakpoint can be the clutch/flywheel. There's much info on this problem as the Golf 4&5 also have this problem.
The 2.0's other weakpoint can be the cylinderhead, the earlier series can get a cracked cylinderhead. This almost never affects the working of the engine but it can occur.
Also a lot of info on this on the net because the engine is availablein almost every VAG car.

If its the same as the Altea,i think a 2.0 not only gets you more power, but you get bigger brakes, bigger intercooler, stronger clutch! plus probably a lot of odds and sods!:)
