1.8TFSi Petrol Engine?

I notice that the facelifted Audi A3 has dropped the 1.8TFSi petrol engine as an option, replacing it with a 2.0TFSI petrol engine option instead. I've also noticed that the latest Skoda Octavia brochure and price list (effective from June 2016), has just discontinued the only remaining 1.8TFSi petrol engine option (previously only available on the Laurin & Klement trim level), even though no facelift or other apparent model changes or engine options have been announced.

Does this indicate that VAG intend to cease production of this engine and also soon discontinue the Leon FR 1.8TFSi petrol, which is the version I currently have and would strongly consider buying again? I think this is a brilliant engine, and will be really sad to see it go.

I have recently test-driven a VW Golf, Skoda Octavia and Audi A3 with the smaller 1.4TFSi 150ACT petrol engine, and although it was extremely smooth-running, it just seemed to me to lack the extra effortless and consistant sporty pulling power throughout the rev range of the 1.8TFSi petrol engine.

Yes, it looks like the 1.8 version of the EA888 is being replaced by the new 2.0 engine. The new 2.0 has about the same power, more torque and better fuel consumption.

I really rate the EA888 1.8, it is a very smooth and responsive engine. Increasingly stricter emmissions and fuel consumption targets mean it probably has to go though. :(

On a more positive note, I am awaiting the new VW 1.5 TSI Evo with interest. Rated at 150PS but with a VNT for excellent low-speed torque response and ACT for fuel economy.

Also, if the imminent Leon facelift does gift the FR with the new 190PS 2.0 petrol engine then it should also get the DQ-500 7-speed DSG as an option.
