Hi! i just got my new ibiza today, i noticed that the engine wile running idly makes a bit of a knocking sound a bit like a diesel and when i press the clutch some of the knocking disappears, is it normal? (its not really knocking but a sound similar) and the gears while standing still when i change them make a bit of a mechanical sound...

i think its OK but i want reassurance that I'm not the only one having this.

and about the "hill hold" how is it activated? is there a minimal angle to engage it because mine should have it in the car but i wasn't able to get it working or seen it in work.

BTW i have a 1.6 SC sport petrol manual.

Hi and walcome My daughters 14se seem to be the same as what you are saying, but she dosn't take any notice and the car has now done about 8k and still going strong, I have the 19tdi diesel as it knocks anyway dont think I would notice. Give it a few days and if you are not happy take it back.I think this is the clutch thrust bearings I know that some times tend to make a little noise on older cars but not sure on a new one.

I got an answer on a Israeli forum, they said that it is perfectly normal and it has some thing to do with the flywheel. (about the clutch sound).
