Hi All,

My GF has bought a new 1.6 reference, picked up on 01/03.

Upon opening the bonnet there is no plastic engine cover, ie. electrics on top the engine exposed etc. There are clearly
fixing points for an engine cover and the manual shows an engine cover with 1.6 written on it. A phone call to dealer has resulted in :

'the 1.6 reference doesn't have an engine cover, only the diesels have them'

WTF ? Can any 1.6 reference owners confirm if they in fact have the plastic engine cover ?

Also, the car is a pig to cold start - loads of throttle required resulting in overfuelling, smoke etc. but this is the only way it will fire when stone cold.
Anyone else ? Engine temp sensors know to be faulty on brand new cars ??

All in all not a great start !

Cheers,

Cheers for the quick reply CMC.

Seems to be luck of the draw then. If it is a cost cutting exercise that really is tighter than a duck ar*e in water !

Very odd that the fittings are there but no cover (UK market I guess). So should SEAT add the engine cover to the options list I wonder ?

What next - 2 front seat belts but only a drivers seat ?

I think the part can be ordered, not sure how much though. I'd be keen to buy one and put it on mine but not if it's too expensive.

I hope I'm not under the bonnet too much! :headhurt:

The engine cover for the 1.6 is not listed on ETKA so in theory there is no replacement for it. Some people have been able to get covers for some TDi's that came without one, in these cases the part numbers are listed. It seems some cars came with and some without.

Well it' been pretty cold here recently and I haven't had an issue with my 1.6. Just foot on clutch and turn the ignition. Doesn't struggle or require any throttle at all.

As for the engine cover, it would have been nice to have one but it's not the end of the world! I assume her engine looks a little like this then...

Thanks LeakyTurnip,

Yep - looks the very same.......naked !

The cold start issue is not right at all - so back to the dealers to sort out. As you correctly say, it should be just a case of clutch down, turn key and she fires into life.

Smacks of the engine temp sender not giving a correct reading to me.

Just a shame it wasn't sorted out before the car was handed over as is does spoil the whole experience.

Will let you know what the outcome of the engine cover 'discussions' are.

Cheers
