1.6 induction system

i have had my sport a few months now and after taking a long hard look under the engine i have found that i have a air pump/ recidec type system that is built in with the airbox i wounded if anyone knew what the purpose of this was? or could tell me anyhting about it

i don't dare take it out yet as i don't know what it does and it has a few sensers on it and i don't want to disturb it

It is the SAI (secondary air something). Pumps hot air to help with cold start emissions I believe.

As said, scrap the standard filter and buy something else (ie. pipercross )

really i think pipercross is crap i had that on the car when i bought the car and was running 185 bhp, i swapped it for the k&n typhoon system and gain 10bhp and sounds alot nicer

welli have my mates fault reader i can useso im going to get it plugges in and remove af ew sensors and see what happens

theres no sensors to remove mate, you get a 77mm maf adapter and a 77mm air filter and your away, theres no other sensors attached to the airbox.

Dan, as we told you at the last derby meet, its the exhaust gas return. Just take the pipe off from the exhaust manifold and the airbox and get gavin to turn off any sensors if it gives any fault codes.

it doesnt go near any of the exhaust system and it sucks the air out of the air box from what i can tell. and i just wanted to be sure before i start ripping stuff out

It goes from the cover over the exhaust manifold and then into the top of the airbox.


It puts hot air back into the engine, something to do with lowering emissions when its cold or something.
