1.5l seat cupra FR plugin hybrid over revving

Hi, I am considering buying a seat leon fr plugin hybrid. So I went to the stealer to try one and they let me go out for 30mins. Fortunately/unfortunately (can't tell) they hadn't charged the car so I presume the petrol engine was always running. I liked the ride, but when I put my foot down it was like the engine changed down multiple gears and really started revving hard. It was in auto i.e. I was not using the flappy paddle. I quite liked the car, but not sure live with that. When going at constant speed the car seemed quiet. very little noise. Is the electric motor supposed to kick in at all if the battery is charged???

So what I want to know - is this typical? Or is there something wrong with the car or perhaps not set to correct mode. The sales exec said he had never heard of this. Not sure he had any experience with this model. I haven't seen any reviews on youtube for the 2024 facelift hybrid.. so don't know. If any 2024 leon fr phev owners are about I would like their opinion.

I've got the non hybrid CUPRA but the DSG box is always over reving the engine, going down hills it changes into 3rd and can hit 4k. Try overtaking and it drops at least one gear, possibly two, then screams past the mobility scooter I was trying to pass.

The DSG box also has a sports mode, but I've never tried it as I fear the engine will explode.

I hate the over revving with these engines. Typically it switches to lower gear screaming at ~3KRPM even at the slightest uphill, and also when rolling down a downhill it might switch 2 gears lower with RPMs hovering around 4K. I think it has to do with the fact the car tries to regen battery all the time as much as possible. Nevertheless, makes the car feel bad IMO.

I like the older petrol engines where the car aimed at lower RPMs.

The only time it will over rev is if it is recuperating (because you've asked it to!) or you've tried to drive it hard in comfort driving mode. Put it in Sport or Cupra and then see what it's like.
