My mate is getting rid of his 05 (i think) 1.8 diesel astra, he paid about 7k for it last year but is getting rid for a freelander i think he said, so he can tow his bikes.

As a joke, i mentioned trading him my 08 1.4 petrol sport for his astra, and he trade that in, as I got out he said if im serious to look into it. At the time, i wasnt, but after a couple of days thinking about it i have been considering it.

I know the answers might be slightly biased here, but given the choice of the two, what would others do ? And if you chose an ibiza over an astra why ?

I always said after my old mk3 astra, and my brothers new corsa rental i wouldnt touch a vauxhall again, but i do like driving his astra.

Your going to move to a car 3 years older with more miles on it i guess? How much is it worth? It wouldn't be a straight swap, he would have to give you cash to make up the difference.

I personally wouldn't do it. Warranty, servicing costs, things that might go wrong with it being an older car.

Your decision though.

+1,

The astra diesel if its the last shape will be either a 1.7cdti in either 100ps or 120ps, or the 1.9cdti in either 120ps or 150ps. For me the astra is a nice car and a worthy purchase in the 150ps form (but then again im an FR driver), but all the others i feel are under powered for its size and theres not enough kit on them

For me, the 1.4 is a cracking little car ( i had a 1.4 sport 100) and tbh honest i think you'll be disapointed with the astra after a while, not enough sparkle, but still a good car. Sport hatch does look the tits tho.........

If its the 3dr sporthatch they really do hold their money, although the 1.7d isn't the greatest!

I was considering selling the Ibiza next year and getting an astra 1.9 sri 150 with the exterior pack, they do look great! But TBH the Ibiza is a good little car and cant see me changing soon unless someone offer me a great deal

Definitly choose the Ibiza , becouse Astra doesn't have very qualitative diesel engines (not speaking for 1.9's or 2.0 CDTi)
