Before you ask I have searched!!! A lot of 20vT times, can't find any mk2 times.

I'll be running against my flat mate who has a VTS at Pod in the new year when it all starts up again, just curious for a time to aim for, bench mark if you will, all part of the fun and challenge.

Last time I was at pod, not in my cupra, a guy ther in a 16v mk2 got 16.1 secs as his best. Wondering what an 8v should manage. I reckon 16.5ish with a good start possibly?

So, anyone got any official stats for the baby Cupra 8v?

Curious,
Tom

From GTi international a good few years ago I got 16.78 seconds and 9.29 seconds 0-60 from my then standard 1994 GTi 8v. I've never been able to get a good start in these things, so I reckon the figures you quote should be about right for someone who knows what they are doing.

Hi Andy,

Mine has got an 1800cc Arnie Levics engine - just one of the standard ones that Chesil offer (either 1600, 1800 or 2000cc). It has approx 90bhp, and is coupled to the standard 4spd transmission and discs front/drums rear.

I have to admit I don't know anything about the internals of the engine. I decided against a really big engine as mine is used for posing rather than driving fast - I've got my S3 for that!

As the car only weighs 750kg, your mates is going to be close to 250bhp per tonne which isn't bad at all. People have also fitted Subaru Imprezza flat fours in various states of tune. Check out speedsters for more info.

Cool. The 0-60 time seems about a second slower than I'd expect, but without a good start that's understandable. I'd be gob smacked if I did see myself going a second faster than 16.78 though.

Gives me something to go for though so cheers ;)

Ran my Ibiza down the sprint at GTi International at the weekend - first time it has been timed since I stripped it for the track. The old figures were 9.29 & 16.78 - these have now gone down to 7.86 0-60 & 16.08 for the 1/4mile. Not bad for an 8v - and just shows how much difference the lack of weight makes!

pretty good 1/4 mile and 0 - 60 times there. I think inters is generally a little better grip wise getting off the line than pod. Aswell as your car stripped out, it's also chipped is it not? I'd still be pretty chuffed nearly breaking into the 15 secs, well done mate ;) Im going pod on the 22nd this month to see what I can do, completely standard!

to 60 will always suffer as you need a 3rd change to hit 60 whereas the 16v will just get past it - same for 1/4 miles as 16v 3rd gear takes you to 97 which is near enough the 'end' time.

Def better for sprints and tracks. 2nd gear 8v is about 56ish, 3rd gear about 82ish ....should pass the line a couple of seconds after changing to 4th

I'd be quite interested to race both a standard 8v Cupra and a standard 20vt at santa pod - think it would be quite interesting. I bet there wouldn't be much in it between all three cars.

16.2 at the pod

You could always try stripping everything out of the car

Yeah, it is chipped - 136bhp and 154lb/ft IIRC. I was just very surprised at how much difference it made. I reckon you could probably get into the 15.9s with a bit more practice. That is the problem at Inters - £6 a shot soon adds up.

Thanks for the info on the gears. My other main car is an S3, and that also suffers the same problem that you can't get 60 in second - but that has a 6 speed box.

All sounds pretty good that, I think you should strip the back seats of the car out at least as they will weight quite a bit - i did expect a quicker 0-60 time il admit that though 9.2 is the same as say a Saxo VTR on paper never mind a VTS lol, i think you can get the 0-60 into the 8s for sure!

Anyone else going to the pod on the 22nd then? Is it SC thing?

I don't go in for all the stripping down lark unless I was actually going to keep the car that way. Alot of people were stripping out there subs, spare wheel etc etc for the runs - I left all my stereo stuff and spare in the car. It seemed a bit fake to strip it all out just to get a better time for that day only, if you know what I mean.

its an open run what ya brung day, only day I can make in the near future. Convoying up with a Fiat Coupe among other stuff.

...I dont strip the car either. When I did my 1.4 head to heads with another 1.4, he stripped out spare and ice, optimax, octane booster ....I only took out my sub, kept amp and spare and regular crap fuel :) ....still won 3 outa 3 mwahha
