1.4 fsi with 1.6 crank

Hi could anyone help me with a bit of any issue. Ive got a new polo engine code cggb which is the 1.4 85ps engine (same engine but different code in ibiza) and have noticed the 1.6 and 1.4 fsi engines share alot of parts in common.
Also the bore is the same so im guessing the pistons + rods are the same, although the stroke is different so the crankthrow is the only difference I can assume, but without any clear measurements I cant be certain.

So because the polo doesnt come in 1.6 guise can I swap the crank over with a 1.6 engine to up the torque a bit.
Also would this royally fook up the ecu or could this be mapped in
Any help would be great
Cheers
Joe

Pistons will be different as the 1.6 isnt an FSi engine, the pistons are specially designed to mix the air and fuel prior to ignition. Also FSi engines run higher compression, even the charged ones.

I was thinking that to be honest but on the seat website said the compression ratio was the same. Although I thought both the 1.4 and 1.6 were both direct injection engines but I would have thought the compression ratio would be different with a shorter stroke. Im a bit confused now to be honest

99.9% sure the 1.6 isnt a direct injection engine. Could be wrong but it is a bit of an oddball engine.

Right then im properly confused now the 1.6 on the golf is listed as an fsi and the engine codes match with the ibiza. They do look different when built up but etka diagrams are a bit poo to be honest so i cant really tell and it doesn't give any proper specifications. but on the base block there only seams to be a couple of minor differences and there bolt on jobbies by the look of things.

The 1.6 in the Ibiza deffo isnt an FSi, there is no high pressure fuel pump on top of the engine, no nox cat or sensors etc.

no worries is there anywhere you can get crank measurments like throw, Big/main journal diameters because etka is useless for it

Cheers techie.
Ive been looking at the 1.4 CGGA crankshaft + conrod bearings it says not a replacemnt part for this model.
Although when i look at theThe 1.6 crank for BSE,BSF,CCSA and CHGA engines it gives you the part number 06a 105 021 d and the pictures are identical, whats that all about?

Not sure as the 1.4 twin charger is CAVE and CAVF in the Ibiza, as yet we arent using the 1.4 turbo.

Also pictures on ETKA mean nothing.

yeah thats something else thats confused me the bts(1.6) head and the fr and cupra heads are listed as one. but with different valves/ springs so the water jackets etc must be the same on top of the block but that doesn't mean the bottom measurments are

you need to start with 2 known engine codes and pick a variation of possible parts to check and list the numbers - then list a 3rd/4th etc

otherwise you'll go round in circles

once you settle to a set of known numbers you 'want' then atp what they fit - but again will take a while to go through them all

Right then Ive just atp'd it and its brought up a list of models including beetles golfs caddies tourans and A polo classic. the ages range from 1998 to 2010 but i cant tell whether it will fit in other blocks.

And john 33 im not sure how long the bts has been around for but the economy isnt much worse than the 1.4 and the performance is a fair bit more. so still not a bad engine.
