This is my first guide so go easy on me :D

kit i used..

O-ring seal part number - 03E 133 073

Water based degreaser and some white spirit

1x Small screwdriver

1x Old tooth brush

1x Wire Brush ( a small one would have been so much easier )

and some cotton buds

imag0198h.jpg

Firstly, remove the engine cover, start at one corner first is the easiest method and just pull the cover up it sits on 4 pegs and they push up inside the rubber grommets.

( dont have pic sorry)

Once pulled off the pegs lift up gently and then disconnect the hoses from the engine leading to the engine cover.

( No pic again :( )

Disconnect the plug connected to the throttle body. insert a small screwdriver into the hole and push gently to release the plug.

Unscrew the four bolts on the throttle body.

imag0201l.jpg

Now lift off the throttle body, it took some getting off my car, nothing a bit of gentle persuation cant take care of

P.S watch out for the 2 locating dowels and be sure to put them back in the intake manifold

Now you will be able to see the extent of the carbon build up..

Clean as you wish to remove the carbon build up.

You shuld end up with something like this...

imag0193m.jpg

Before reassmebling i would advise replacing the o-ring seal on the intake manifold.

imag0200n.jpg

now re-assemble in reverse

when tightening the bolts back up i tightened each one a little at a time in an "x" shape pattern.

Now reconnect the electrical plug back onto the throttle body

imag0202w.jpg

now replace the engine cover, dont forgot to replace the hoses from where they were disconnected from.

Pics dont seem to be working either

I don't know why pics aren't working :S , my car is so much easier to start, and alot smoother, btw do you have like a ptsh sound when you blip the throttle ? Mine sounds like a turbo when you rev it haha

i done it tonight. it was proper stubborn stuff to clean off was that carbon. but it does feel a bit more lively for it. however, i noticed the inlet manifold was also all caked up inside. has anyone cleaned that out yet or is it not worth doing.

I had a go at cleaning throttle body too, only done 25k so wasn't too bad just used a rag to wipe it off.

I cleaned my inlet manifold as best i could with the rag (as far as i could reach).

Anyone know if there is there any way of cleaning it?
