Hello again. I think the maniverter on my ibiza is cracked: I can hear and smell the exhaust at the front of the engine. I'm thinking of taking it off myself as access is good however the bolts are all very rusted and I have read that they can be difficult to remove. I have added penetrating oil and will run the car for a few minutes before attempting.

I'm a bit stuck with removing the heat shield. I've got the bolts off and I can't see how it can come off without taking the lambda sensor out? I'd obviously prefer not to remove that as it'll also be near welded in.

Finally, are there good aftermarket catalytic converters available? SEAT wanted 785 quid for one!

I figured out the heat shield and could then see the manifold is cracked by the lambda sensor. After an hour with my home made penetrating lube (gear oil + GT-85) all the upper bolts are moving.

So the only remaining questions are

1. Are the aftermarket converters any good?
2. Is welding it worth considering?
