2001 Seat Leon TDI SE - Waterleak?

hi, a friend of mine has a seat leon which i am interested in buying but i we noticed the other day that it leaks water into the footwell, but dont know how it got there - asked a few people they say its a common fault - is that true? can anyone elaborate?
