Right do I get my gearbox refurbished with a shim in to prevent the 3/5 gear de acceleration whine.

Had my organic clutch fitted this weekend and just wanted to ask if the following are normal?
1.Clutch bites about half way up.
2.Seems quite abrupt on letting the clutch in
