Temperature light flashing-Help!

i drove about 150miles to Wales over the weekend, and when I was about to set back, my temperature sensor light came flashing. (It was in the morning, so engine was cold.) I restarted the car and it came on again! The temperature reading was zero! So I restarted the car the 3rd time and started...
