Waxing applicators/buffers Qs

As the title says really... just a couple of questions. What do you peeps do to get rid of wax from an applicator after using it? I would have thought just leaving it to dry would make it all powdery with dried residue so do you all wash it somehow after you've finished? Also for wax...
