Came home last nite and was parking up the kerb, went a little to far and then popped the car in reverse, all of the sudden the air con came on harder!
For a good demo, leave the car running on idle with the air con blowing through the front vents at the fastest power. Then put the car in reverse and they'll suddenly start blowing harder, then calms down after you take it outta reverse.
Think its because when ur in reverse theres not as much air getting to the air con unit so it blows harder to compensate. Correct me if i'm wrong tho.

I think it's because the aircon switches to recycle mode as you engage reverse, so that fumes are not sucked into the cabin as you reverse through your exhaust.

Try switching the aircon to recycle mode and see if it sounds the same.

This is the answer. It has been dicussed here before. The quickest way to cool down the car in the summer is also to use the recirc mode.

The answer is as Timer says. It recirculates the aircon whilst in reverse so you dont breath in fumes your reversing over.

Good, I thought something had gone horribly wrong with some cables when the dealer replaced my reverse light switch, good to know it's actually supposed to do that although I wouldn't really call it a "vital" safety feature

There's a secret button on the Menu above, that not many people know about, its 2nd from the Right, and is named "SEARCH" strangely!? ;)

This thread also originally started in 2005 fella...if you look at the first posts....so someone did search to prevent re-posting ;)
