AP Coilovers - missing helper springs?

After fitting my coilovers I've noticed knocking noises on the front of my car. Im not so low that the arb is hitting the drive shaft so it cant be that.

After doing a bit of research I came across this thread on Briskoda
http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/136216-ap-coil-overs-some-findings/

Can someone confirm to me that the helper spring is the little black coil under the gold ring?

If so mine is missing, and could be why I have a knock? My blue coil spring is sitting directly on the blue adjuster.

Where can helper springs be bought from?

Would appreciate any help here :)

Cheers, Chris

Few weeks ago I fitted a set of second hand AP coilovers and didnt have helper springs. Their on the car with new drop links and top mounts and theres no knocking noises. (apart from 1 when I first start driving which I think is the shock as it stop after a few minutes)

Thats my thread from briskoda. I found with my Fabia which ran the APs with the it in a lower position there wasnt any tension on the spring when unloaded. Problem with this is the top bearing is in a couple of parts and is held together with the tension forcing up on it. I would after a while the bearings were getting knackered as they were full of dirt and debris. I fitted the helper springs so it forced the main spring up on the bearing even when fully unloaded and never had a problem again.

But no they werent part of the kit I bought two helper springs seperately.

The kits don't come with them, as I said I bought them separate and no they didn't raise the car as I wound down the platform to compensate.

Where did you buy them from mate?

I had the car jacked up on the weekend and I could rattle the spring around with my hand? I only get the noise when coming off speed bumps, or in a sudden dip in the road - which is when the spring is unloaded?

I replaced the top mounts, havent done droplinks though - this may be on this list :(

Been looking for you (techie) on Briskoda! :)

Need some help with the AP's as mine are awful - changed drop links, bushes, top mounts etc and still the noise is there!

I'm going to supplying dealer tomorrow to have suspension checked then hopefully AP will say they need helper springs!

Not posted on Briskoda for a long time for my own reasons.

The helper springs I got from a friend who works at a suspension specialist but they are just Eibach items.

Don't worry about it, just been hunting you down! :)

The problem is mine are making the noise and its at the TUV height, I want it lower but have raised it to be within my warranty!

Any chance you can remember the weights etc of the helper springs and collar?

Adlav if you order some helper spring let me know mate? Think I want these, even though they dont come with them.

Why do AP's not have them but other brands do? Surely that means they must need them!

Been to GWerks - supplying dealer and they ahd a look over the car and said it looks like the spring knocks against itself when moving causing the noise.
They got straight on the phone to KW who are sending out some rubber tubing used to stop the knocking when the spring is under tension.

Hopefully this works, will update next week!
