  1. Are diesels worth more than petrol equivalents (serious question)
    Was looking on Autotrader yesterday and the cheapest FR cost more than my LCR, even though it had something like 160k miles on the clock
  2. Do diesel owners only buy them to do mega miles in?
    As above, nearly all of the FRs I looked at had some big numbers on the odometer. Granted I was thinking about picking one up to do increased mileage with, but still, is that the only reason people buy them?

Yes Diesel variants are more expensive purely because of the mpg i presume. Resale value is higher than petrols as well in most cases. Saying that ive seen some low mileae LCR's going for the same price i paid for my 55 FR.

I bought mine cause i have around 1500/2000 miles a month to do. But i wanted POWAHH! Lol

I may end up doing a lot of miles and I'm trying to keep my LCR's mileage down; it's done 98k already in 7 years, and I'd be happy to not increase that too much more

bought it because its cheaper to run & tax n insure

i dont to mega milage , saying that i bought it last may 09 on 50k didnt use it til late june or late july ,
then this year the big fcuk up , megga money was off the road from may this year til september m and shes on about 72k now

some may say lala land....
but you can upgrade to brembos with an fr+ and keep the same 17" wheels, or with starfish get 10mm spacers.

i got mine due to running costs as per andy and also the mileage as per calyx

looking at doing 213mm & 25mm upgrade and then clutch before remap at end of year :)

its a car that gives best of both worlds :):)

Ha ha, I knew when I bought mine! I was even on the lookout specifically for the Recaro options, which would also need to go over to the FR if I had one... By the sounds of it I need a written off LCR that has good wheels, brakes, Brembos and preferably an LCR225 wheel too :lol: Oh, and an FR+ that costs less than an LCR and still low mileage... not asking much!

My FR+ only has 59k on it, but I could of got a LCR with alot less miles for the same price, so yeah they are more expensive than the petrol models.

I don't do that many miles to be fair, but I don't think that matters as I dont agree with the "only get a diesel if you do X amount of miles"

A journey I do still gets me 45-50mpg where as if I was in one of my old cars I'd be getting 24-28mpg with the same driving methods.. I got the FR+ as its practical, nice looking, reasonably quick (more so with a map) but still returns good mpg.

Im sure theres lots more people who dont do 15k+ a year and still drive a diesel!

Nothing beats the sound of diesel clatter :cartman:
on a serious note it all depends on your right foot. I bet if I had a lcr I could get similar results in mpg. Plus side of the diesel is you can thrash it and it won't hurt the wallet as much as the petrol thrash did.

maybe you should go to a meet somewhere where some of the serious tdi'rs are where you can compare

for arguments sake if you were to get one how much would you spend on modding etc
if your going balls out , then meet the likes of jonjay , he has it all , R styling big brakes and hybrid

but if youd only be interested in say a remap and exhaust etc then speak to others more local
9i cant really think of anyone else thats springs to mind ,

alot of the boys upgrade the brakes to 312mm with just caliper carriers disks n pads , same calipers , or if ya want brembos then alot have changed for them too

im just sayig get a feeler out for some testing , handling power delivery wise
