Worn Steering Wheel and Gear Knob.

I know I'm not the only one with this problem. I'm sure that I read on here
somewhere that LCR steering wheels and gear knobs are actually trimmed in
red leather and are painted/dyed/whatever in black. Are paints available and
has anyone tried them?

I’m not an expert on this but thinking about this logically and without sounding condescending ~ There are mobile units that will repair "general" leather interiors on cars with a paint and lacquer I think... it’s the same principle with your leather sofas at home if you have them. They can spray them to remove strains, marks etc. I’m sure that those mobile guys could probably re-colour it but the problem would be the matching. You might have to do all the leather on the steering wheel or it would look patchy.

Try this company

The Scratch Doctor

They supply leather repair kits, which include dyes etc. I used one of their kits on the half leather interior of my previous Renault Megane, and I was REALLY impressed with the result.

This post won't let me post links as it's only post 14, but posting another immediately afterwards with the links you need

Hope this helps

Nice one Mike, thanks.

Jonny, just out of interest, after what sort of mileage did the red start showing through??

I bought the car with 35,000 miles on ant it was already like it. To be honest it has'nt got any worse in 18 months.
Last owner must've had sweaty hands. lol.

I was gonna say looks like its been done with a pen but didnt want to seem rude :cartman:

The cheek of it! :p

Ha ha, what an ametuer I am. To be fair the pictures are not very good. I did the gear knob first and after a day or so it goes dull and it really does look ok. Certainly looks better than it did. Got to give these things a try have'nt we?

i doubt it will last as long as the original dye did ;) but credit to ya...only the eagle-eyed will notice the slight darker patches
