Finally got round to taking some photos of my new motor and thought id post them up. Picked it up a couple of weeks ago and so far am over the moon with it! Was driving a 130pd golf before the leon and can feel there is more power from this and it feels like it's delivered much more smoothy but the handleing has impressed me the most, alot of fun on the back roads to work.

Only issues Ive had s far was the rear washer becomming disconnected in the boot and I replaced the font splitter when I picked it up. Theres also a rattling from the boot and I have no idea what it is or where it's coming from so f anyone havs any ideas just let me know.

Only other things im considdering at the moment are painting the calipers red, but not sure whether it will look a bit naf or not so wouldnt mind your thoughts on that and also if anyone has any advice if theyve had it remapped what they thought and did it effect your MPG too much as I do a fair few miles each week getting to work, hence the diesel machine.

Cheers!

nice car mate. i'm one of the lucky few to have an fr+ too. after a custom code phase 1 i get about 45mpg on average. thats with a bit of booting it and some sensible driving. ive had 60mpg post remap out of it when trying but wheres the fun in that?!
remap doesnt really affect the mpg i'd say, just that when the power's there youre gonna be more likely to use it. one thing i would say is to factor in the cost of a new friction disc and pressure plate as well cos the standard clutch might slip a bit with the extra torque.
ive also painted the calipers and carriers red - on a black car - and i love it but have to put up with a fair bit of abuse from some mates with the 'max power' pi$$ taking. i guess its one of those love/hate things.personally i think it adds a nice touch to the overall look of the car.

Lucky you with the brembo's... was going to look for a brembo upgrade for it but I cant see it being that cheap.

Dan, what king of BHP and torque increase did you end up with?

Hopefully get some 'arty' pics up eventually.

custom code claim figures of bhp up to 180 and torque to 290 which i cant comment on cos ive never had it on a rolling road. But it is a marked improvement - i have swithched mine off a few times with VAG Com and when you put the map back you really can feel the extra grunt. In fact my clutch cant really handle the extra torque and its just a matter of time before i'll be spending out for a new one.
Yeah the Brembo jnrs look really good behind cupra R alloys. I was thinkin of getting some porsche calipers for a while but decided on the 312 route instead - mainly for budget reasons (new clutch). Theyre still a hell of a lot better than the standard brakes and for the cost of new discs and caliper carriers its well worth it.

Yeah i'd heard BHP figures of around 200 but wasnt too sure on torque. Do many people have to get the clutches changed after a remap or is it more so the diesels due to the torque? Also have you any ideas on a rattle in the boot or not suffered one yourself?

The rattle in the boot:
1.) Put some insulating tape around the pins the the rear seats back lock onto (fold them forward and you will see the bits a mean)
2.) Do the same with the 2 pins that the parcel sheft rests on.
3.) The hardest one: Remove the trim off the boot. You will see a threaded bar from the inside of the boot handle to the boot latch - it is more than likely this is poorly adjusted. Tighten this link up using the threaded end until the rattle-ly movement in it is reduced. Make sure the opening mechanism still works and locks etc before putting the trim back on just in case ;).

Good Luck! Nice car by the way:D

yeah its the extra torque at low revs that does it. mines still perfectly driveable at higher revs but ive gotta be careful to feed the power on slowly or the revs race up to 4k and i go the same speed.
kinda seems pointless having the map if you have to tame down your driving
having said that, lots of people are fine with a standard clutch and it'll keep going quite happily for miles and miles. depends on lots of things like the aggresiveness of the map, personal driving style and the condition of the clutch in the first place.
regards the rattle: is it anything to do with your rear washer coming disconnected - maybe a rogue washer at the time?? or the only other thing i could think was the plastic threaded thing over the spare wheel needing a tighten. get someone in the back to have a listen as you drive round a car park?

Started on a few things I wanted doing, after seeing the state of my old filter I ordered up a green panel filter off Bill, top service from him! It goes much better now for fitting this, probably due to the state my old filter was in. Smoother now and feels like the turbo spools slightly earlier. Could just be me.

Waiting until the spring so can get the benefit from fitting a lower S3 strut brace. Looking into a 315mm brake conversion at the front if I can find some carriers for a decent price. And also possible a short shifter.

Also looking into possibly lowering by 30-50mm. But that wouldnt be happening for a while yet. Going to get a few more pics up of the car in the next few days I hope, been meaing to do it for a while now.

Cheers Craig, the lights look excellent. Ive seen the link you put up for the side light bulbs, going to order them this week. Then think A KVW100 unit might also go on order for auto windows.
