Has anyone tried one of them tuning boxes of the bay because i saw one the other day for £15 and it said it would take my tdi 130 to 159bhp ?????

... the quick answer is, yes, they do give a bit more ooomph on the PDs (about 0.3 / 0.4 seconds quicker over 40-60mph in 4th). A bit more soot too.
No, it didn't affect fuel consumption on my 2003 PD130. No check engine lights or other issues.
I ran it for about 7K miles then took it off because it made the car VERY sensitive to light throttle applications, which caused a bit of driveline shunt in town. I got tired of this.
My opinion: fun for £15 - £20. But don't expect miracles, and certainly not 20+ bhp.

All they do is trick the ECU into thinking that the fueling is lower than it is, or that the engine is cold so that more juice gets thrown into the mix. I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole myself.

I think i will just leave it then,i bought a diesel so i would get better mpg and these things sound like all they do is throw more diesel into the engine.
Spend some money on a proper remap and other upgrades.
Do the research. It'll be worth it.

Revo is "only" £399 these days! I barely notice any fuel increase in mine...... still gets 50MPG at 90 and at 70 around 62mpg on Tesco's own! (As I've said elsewhere though... I'd probably buy a Jabba map if I were doing it again.... more tailored to your car on a rolling road).

The way they work is by plugging into the fuel temperature sensor. The box makes the ECU think the fuel is hot, therefore less dense, so the ECU throws in a little more fuel.
Worst that can happen is the box may throw a check engine light, if it doesn't within a few miles of driving then it's working within the ECU's allowable ranges.
But as said above, it does affect light-throttle behaviour.
