Hiya guys, sorry im new to these forums and im not a very good mechanic! lol

So please bear with me...

Ive just brought a new seat ibiza its an early 2003 model (52 plate) so is this a mk3 or mk4?

Few little problems: (its all under warranty just want to know your opinions)

Engine Temp Sensor likes to go over to 130 (into red) so it beeps and then goes back down every now and again...

Heat controls doesn't work from 1-3 but on 4 it works, even the air con only comes on when the fan is on the 4 setting?

Little oil leak i think but i know that could be anything.

On Full lock, either way, there is a little werring noise but ive been told this could be my power steering fluid is low, any idea where i put this in under the bonnet? Cuz i cant find it! lol

Sorry about all the questions just im new to the SEAT's but they are a really nice drive!

Thanks again

Martin

Welcome to the site! Its a Mk4 :D

Power steering thing is under the battery I think, yellow lid.

I have cimate control so can't comment on heat settings...

What engine is it??

welcome matey sounds like an air lock if the heaters arent working and the engine is overheating

try taking the coolant cap off when engine is cold turn the heaters on hotand full blast and rev the car up to 3-4,000rpm till up to temperature this will get rid of air locks in the system and shouldsort your problem out once done top up coolant if low :)

And i do all this with the coolant cap off? its a strange problem with the heater controls when 1-3 dont work but 4 does! :S

Warwickshire once.
Heaters controls could be the switch or the fan being knackered.

I would start by checking all fuses then moving onto changing the switch as it's the cheapest.

I wouldn't expect it to be a fuse as the fan is already working on level 4, however don't know if there is a secondary circuit there, tbh I wouldn't expect there to be one.

did you bring it somewhere?

or did you buy it?

If the latter I think you meant you 'bought' a seat ibiza.

Yes, I think it is 'bought' rather than 'brought'.

If we talking about the temperature gauge going into the 'red', I would guess either the thermostat is not opening at the correct temperature, or the electric cooling fan isn't working and you're relying on the flow of air when you are moving to bring the temperature down. Either way it needs looking at. Take it back to where you bought it from and ask them to look at it.

Or it could be a voltage regulator. I had an Escort once and occasionally both the fuel and temp gauges both rose at the same time before returning.

Don't think an air lock in the heater would cause the engine to overheat. You just wouldn't get any hot air as there wouldn't be any water circulating around the heater matrix.

sounds like your engine temp problem could be down to your fan not workin! i had this happen on a brand new punto but it was fixed under warranty. being a 52 reg your car wont be under warranty by SEAT unless its got an extended warranty.
With regards to your air con it may just need a re-charge but aint too sure on that, got climate control on mine :D
