I have had a quick search but not really found an answer :(

Had a rather 'spirited' drive home yesterday and just pulling into the car park the temperature guage went to near 120 and the alarm went off.. The coolant was boiling and the fans werent on...

Anyway after playing with the fuses on the battery i got the fans on and left it cooling down for a bit.

Now i know i need a new fuse holder thing and am picking one up tomorrow hopefully. The fuse had melted before but now the holder is looking a bit melted

But today when driving the car from cold it started to overheat after only about half a mile.. It normally isnt even registering a temperature at this stage :S

Im not sure whats going on with the fusebox as the right fuse is doing some cooling but isnt getting the fans on.... Its not nice getting to work hearing the water boiling :(

Anyway was just wondering why it could be heating up so quick ? Is it likely to be a leak or split or something ? Someone suggested thermostat but after a short drive to work (ok probably no fans) the water was boiling...

Could this be caused by a dodgy fusebox ? Im really hoping when i change that its going to be all ok..

Was too scared to drive it home from work in the end so left it there  Managed to borrow a massive vectra though so not all bad!

Any advice, comments and suggestions welcomed :D

Mate! I had the exact same problem at the end of last week. The fuse on the far right in the fusebox on the battery had melted to the fuse holder, It stopped my cooling fans and aircon from working....meanwhile I was stuck in a hugeee traffic jam, had to put the heater inside on full blast to take some heat away from the engine as it was at 115deg still rising, was'nt nice as it was 22deg outside.

Seat master tech at my work says its just caused by the fuses/fusebox getting corroded over time and burning out.

I bought a new fusebox and some new fuses and used some dielectric grease on them to keep corrosion away. And wa la, everything is working fine again :)

Common problem on seat's with this setup ibizas/leons.

Yeh, it was overheating all of a sudden and quickly, I had my ear out the window to try and hear if my cooling fans were coming on, but traffic noise drowned it out lol.

Em, The part number your looking for is 1J0 937 617C, if you have a 60AH/61AH (standard) battery.

wicked mate thanks for that :)

Was so worried today that it was going to be something other than the fusebox :(

Have ordered the fusebox today but wont be there till Monday so had to get the car home after work.. Ended up sat on the hard shoulder of the m4 3 times

Thing is its heating up within half a mile of very very slow driving and then carries on to boil the water and starts getting near 120 degrees within about 10 minutes  The fans work sometimes and not others but even when the fans are working it still overheats as soon as you start driving.. thats what worried me the most i think!!

Anyway its home now and not moving until I can fit the new fusebox.. Fingers crossed this will resolve the issues!!!

Just to let you know the fusebox does'nt come with new fuses, so providing your metal blade fuses are ok reuse them. But get three new 30amp normal fuses from somewhere (the green ones) Also do you have any dielectric grease? It should prevent corrosion in the future if you put it on the fuses/connections.

yeah have already picked up a bag of fuses lol

Is it easy enough to change the box then ? My plan is to disconnect the battery firstly then start trying to undo stuff! ;)

How much was is the fuse holder and fuses please?

My car overheated in traffic this am so I pulled over and the fans werent coming on. I pushed down on the fuse holder/fuses and the fans came to life and the car was fine for the rest of the journey.

Does it sound like I need a new holder?

C1J0937617C FUSEBOX 34.82 (+ vat)

C1J0937555C COVER 4.73 (+vat)

With VAT added it worked out at 46.47... Quite expensive for what it is really but mine needed replacing... Shame it didnt sort the problems though :(
