I thought I'd do a fitting guild for the 42 Draft solid shifter bushes. I bought the from Awsome on tOm's tip off*http://www.awesomegti.com/42-draft-vw-shifter-bushing-set-mk4-5-6speed-my02-05
A before shot.*
The play in the old bushes
First you have to remove the rubber bush. I pushed the nylon collar out with my fingers and removed the rest of the rubber with a knife.*
. * * * * **You can see in the corners the diagonal that holds the rubber in.*
As you can see there are two sizes of bush. The smaller diameter hole is for the side to side and the larger for the back to front.*
They are to small a diameter to fit so the needed to be opened up a bit. I did this nice and slowly with a punch, oil and wet and dry.*
When they just slid over the pin I oiled it lightly and slid it on (oh matron).
Then did the same for the upper part of the bush. Replaced the clip and all done.
*
There is no longer any slack in this part of the shift it's rock solid. It nice and easy to do. It just takes a bit of time to file them down.*
